Schwerin reminds me a lot of other former-Eastern German cities I have visited, most notably Erfurt, with respect to the way they have recovered since reunification of the country.
Schwerin has been rebuilt, refurbished, and repackaged into a glorious lakeside city/town that is absolutely worth a visit.
Certainly as a provincial capital, Schwerin is an important city, but it thankfully lacks the obvious city-like hustle and bustle, and with the beautiful scenery such as I found at the train station (final photo), I had the very strong feeling that the welcome mat was out.
