	Volkswagen Schwimmwagen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Schwimmwagen from the December 1944 issue of the Intelligence Bulletin.
		The VW Schwimmwagen (Porsche Type 128 and Type 166) was an amphibious vehicle used extensively by the German Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS during the Second World War.
		All Schwimmwagen were four wheel drive only on first and reverse gears with some models and ZF self lock diff on all models (even the earlier Type 128, based on the full-length Kübelwagen chassis (2.4 m (7.9 ft) wheelbase).

		While few will be interested in the story of this kit’s construction, I thought some of the beginners amongst us (of which I am one when it comes to vehicles) might be interested in my experiences using the MIG products.
		Besides a wash and some localised drybrushing, the Schwimmwagen was weathered using a combination of MIG powders and pastels.
		The MIG powders can be mixed together with isopropyl alcohol or Tamiya acrylic thinners to make a wash or applied straight from the container and applied in much the same way you would use pastels chalks.

		The off-road and amphibious capabilities of the German Schwimmwagen proved extremely valuable in the arduous conditions throughout the war and especially during the Battle of the Bulge.
		This Type 166 Schwimmwagen is from the German 716th Infantry Division and is painted in a western front motif.

	Schwimmwagen and Light Recon Vehicles
		One interesting thing I've come across researching this topic are wheel fittings for the Schwimmwagen that are called "Walzen" -Which I think translates as "roller".
		These might be paddles to supplement the vehicles propeller, or they might be a device for spreading the weight on soft ground, or a combination of both.
		Imagine a raid carried out entirely by Schwimmwagens that never leave the water: On a dark night, you motor quietly close inshore (but not too close), fire soft-launch missiles from low on the surface of the river/lake/swamp/estuary ("Where the hell did -that- come from?"), then motor quietly away again.

		Set TX 0099 is a one piece Canvas Cover and is cleanly cast in light cream resin with a single large casting block along the the rear top to be removed.
		As a result the fit of the canvas top to the Tamiya kit body is very snug with the fit around the side curves and rear panel sitting perfectly flush while the top of the windscreen frame fits precisely into the front of the canvas top.
		A simple set to add a different feel to your Schwimmwagen but you will have to add the centre side support frame from thin sprue or wire to complete the update.
