SCI FI Channel is currently setting aside a block of primetime on Tuesday evenings each week to air series and documentaries on "unexplained phenomena" produced by independent filmmakers.
SCI FI is providing these filmmakers with the opportunity to gain national television exposure for their material (some reflecting controversial points of view) because much of these programs do not fit in with current programming strategies of other networks.
Supporting CFI's mission is part of SCI FI Channel's UFO public advocacy initiative, but CFI's mission is its own: to generate serious media coverage of the UFO issue; to work with members of Congress; to assist scientists in gaining credibility for the subject and increasing resources for research (www.freedomofinfo.org).

The time spent yelling to a channel that is deaf to our cries, because they made up their minds long ago that they didn't want to air "Farscape" anymore.

When confronted about this, the Sci-Fi Channel usually refers to "the 1960's" as a generic time these programs were made to try to bypass the topic.
"Sci Fi Vortex" was a great Science Fiction News show that had a segment called the "War Room" in which various Producers, Writers, Actors, etc. from various fields of Science Fiction and Television would get together and talk about the state of things today.
Did you notice that when the Sci-Fi Channel airs Star Trek, it now jumps from one Act straight into the other (where's the suspense?), and there are now commercial breaks where before there were none.

A follow-up to the original "Dune" miniseries, which won two Emmy Awards and record ratings for Sci Fi, "Children of Dune" is a sprawling, complex tale that continues the story of the Atreides family, rulers of Arrakis, a turbulent desert planet also known as Dune.
When the channel came under new leadership five years ago, one of the stated objectives was to produce blockbuster miniseries regularly, said Bonnie Hammer, the channel's president.
Though Sci Fi has not committed itself to a third miniseries yet, Hammer says that if "Children of Dune" is well received, the story will be continued, possibly even as a weekly series.

Universal, the production company that films the series shopped the show to the SCI-FI Channel which picked up the series for 22 new episodes, in addition to the 48 already created, and started showing selected repeats in March 1998 and the new episodes bowed in June 1998.
In addition, the producers felt that the characters were too "family" like and didn't have enough conflict, so all of a sudden, after 2 1/2 seasons, the characters are all at each other's throats.
At the end of the third season, the show was cancelled by FOX, but it was renewed on the SCI-FI Channel for two additional seasons.
