Sci Fi Channel (United States) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The channel was launched on September 24, 1992 as a sister cable channel to USA Network by then-owners Paramount Pictures (which was later acquired by Viacom in 1994) and MCA (then part of Japanese electronic giant Matsushita), the owner of Universal Studios, each with a 50 percent stake in the venture.
The channel was seen as a natural fit with classic film and television series that both studios had in their vaults, including Paramount's Star Trek and classic Universal horror films such as Dracula and Frankenstein.
The first broadcast of the Sci Fi Channel on September 24, 1992, was an installment of FTL Newsfeed, a fictitious, serialized news program reporting current events from the year 2142.

 Showtime SF Channel Nears Blast-Off
With the imminent launch of the science fiction oriented Showtime Beyond cable channel, Viacom seems to be gearing up for what could become a major assault on the television niche carved out by the SciFi Channel, but the fate of Star Trek remains unknown.
A basic subscriber cable channel like Redstone's dream replacement for SciFi would be a better bet, but even then the care and feeding of a new -- and likely expensive -- SF weekly series may be unworkable.
As for the original SciFi Channel that Redstone lost two years ago, USA Chairman and CEO Barry Diller has vowed to throw his corporate resources behind the current reigning SF champion, saying late last year that he would be "pouring money into production" and bringing plenty of original programming to the channel.

More cable companies need to carry the Scifi channel - Frell Me Dead
I noticed that not all of the cable companies offer the Scifi channel in my area, which is Marin county, northern part of the San Francisco bay area.
Or in some areas, their local cable company offers the Scifi channel on their most expensive optional package, so it's more rarely an option for their viewers to be able to watch Farscape at all.
SciFi aka 'Skiffy' currently has little love for real genre fans, much less Farscape fans, so it's probably not worth you expending any effort on their part, since they abandoned you more than 18 months ago.

SciFi Channel now changed its name to SurgeTV (update: apparently false info) and has changed its focus from sci-fi to mostly crappy entertainment of “Catch/Kats” wrestling.
For a month now they were going on and on and on about the 200th episode, it aired on Friday, and on Monday morning they announced that the series is over (obviously a decision that was taken long before it got announced).
Even with their crappy and cheap scifi series, it was an oasis for anyone who is a geek.

SciFi Channel wades deeper into muck by dropping SciFiction journal by Jason Sanford
Anyone familiar with the crap that the SciFi Channel broadcasts (with the exception of Battlestar Galatica) has to wonder if the channel deliberately undermines everything it does that is remotely decent.
For example, the most critically acclaimed show the channel ever broadcast was Farscape, and that show was dropped like a hot potato.
In its place the channel broadcast even more low-budget movies about monsters that eat people in dark and scary places.
