In the township the population was spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the township was $42,361, and the median income for a family was $47,065.

Union Township is documented back as far as 1826.It is the middle township on the eastern border of Boone County and is comprised of 25 sections of land.
It is bounded on the north by Marion Township, on the west by Center and Worth Townships, on the south by Worth and Eagle Townships, and on the east by Hamilton County.
On the other hand the south portion of the township was noted as having a number of quagmires and small willow swamps which are hedged in with very close under wood, many of the small streams will fail in dry weather.

The local road paving was completed in early October with the re–paving of Bridge Road in Hillsdale Township after pulverization and regrading of the base.
The townships have continued to show strong support for local road and bridge improvements, however, their contributions were reduced in 2003 in large part due to revenue sharing cuts from the state of Michigan.
Township contributions are expected to be $845,000 in 2003 as compared to $1,034,150 in 2002.

Wright was elected on the Democratic ticket to the lower house of the Michigan legislature, from the then second district of Oakland County, comprising the townships of Groveland, Holly, Independence, Rose, Springfield, Waterford, and White Lake.
In the fall of 1839 he was elected on the old Whig ticket to the legislature of the State, and was one of the representatives in that body from the county of Oakland during the session of 1840.

The first years of the decade were dominated by development of the Albion-Pulaski- Scipio "Golden Gulch" of southwestern Michigan as oil and gas explorer/producers rushed to fill in the tapestry of well completions in that area.
The September 30, 1960 edition of the Michigan Oil and Gas News reported 23 active drilling units in Calhoun County, 23 in Hillsdale County and 33 in Jackson County.
While the first four companies stayed in northern Michigan, Mobil later shifted their interests to the Niagaran "fairway" to the south, a narrower band looping from about Ottawa County to the west through Eaton, Ingham, Livingston, Oakland and Macomb counties to leave Michigan into Canada at St. Clair County.

At the Michigan road land sale at Logansport in October, 1831, he bought 240 acres which he had already inspected and early in the ensuing spring he was in motion with his family and outfit on the long march from the Ohio river almost to the lake.
This man was one of that notable group of educated Indians and half-breeds who were friendly to the white influences and exercised a powerful control over the tribes in the treaties and other intercourse with the government.
During the Michigan road operations he was useful to William Polke, the road commissioner, and restrained his red friends from a violent prevention of the survey and construction of that highway.

 Michigan Historical Marker: Mosherville Church / Mosherville School
The Mosherville Church was built in 1861-62 on land donated by Joseph and Mary Riggs.
The oldest school in Scipio Township, it originally had two rooms serving grades one through ten.
Later, as an eight-grade school, its well-kept yard and out buildings, organization, furnishings and supplies earned it the status of "standard school." The school closed in 1967 and later became the home of the Ladies Aid Society.

In September, 1843, he removed with his family to the township of Park, St. Joseph county, Michigan, and located a large tract of land (six hundred acres), which was wild and uncultivated, but which his sons, ender his management, subdued and brought to a high state of productiveness.
He has held the office of justice of the peace in Lockport township for twelve years since 1856, and the office of supervisor of the township has been filled continuously by him from the fall of that year, to the present time, with the exception of the years 1863 and 1872.
Moore was elected a member of the convention of Michigan, to frame a new constitution, in which he took an active part, and claims to have been the means of introducing some its most conservative articles.

 Westville Community Historical Society - History of Westville, Indiana
He had passed and passed again through the door on trips to visit relatives in Niles, Michigan.
Those settlers helped make Westville's New Durham Township, one of the county's original three, along with Kankakee and Scipio.
The widow Benedict was given the honor of naming the new territory and she choose the name New Durham in honor of her birthplace, Durham, New York.
