All the singles came from the self-titled debut album Scissor Sisters, which reached #1 on the UK albums chart and became the best selling album of 2004, beating their closest rival Keane by just 582 copies.
Scissor Sisters' CDs, records, and DVDs feature artwork by an English illustrator named Spookytim, who has a studio in Brighton called Studiospooky.

The group was formed with the full name Dead Lesbian and the Fibrillating Scissor Sisters in 2001 by lead vocalist Jake Shears (born Jason Sellards) and keyboardist/bass guitarist Babydaddy (born Scott Hoffman).
Scissor Sisters actually made their debut live appearance at Ana’s club in late 2001, and now the stately lady is a fixture at their dates (where the trio are joined by charismatic friends Del Marquis on guitar and Patrick Seacor on drums), and lends her own crisp tones to record.

The fact that Scissor Sisters' debut recently topped the charts in England is not surprising in the least -- it appropriates the sounds of the endless string of homoerotic male pop icons who have been so enormously beloved by the British public for decades: Elton John, Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Robbie Williams.
Scissor Sisters consistently delivers slightly naughty, sexy pop thrills with only a little dependency on high camp or the variety of drag queen feyness that afflicts most other gay acts who attempt wider appeal (the album's weakest track, the shrill dance song "Filthy/Gorgeous", proves to be the main exception).
And, of course, the gestures made by Scissor Sisters' stylistic ancestors were always coy intimations, not direct revelations.

Still, it is interesting to me how things have changed in that the Scissor Sisters are capitalizing on the gay card early in their careers.
