Scooby-Doo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Subsequent television shows and films often make reference to Scooby-Doo, for example Wayne's World and the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in which Buffy and her monster-slaying friends refer to themselves as the "Scooby Gang" or "Scoobies," a knowing reference to Scooby-Doo.
In Scooby Doo 2, the storyline was more back to the cartoon feel, with original foes from the series coming to life as real monsters, some created in CGI while others were actors in costumes.

So make sure you save yourself a few bucks and hit the matinée because, no two ways about it--you're taking the kids to the new Scooby Doo movie.
Scooby and Shaggy, that is. O.G. cartoon creators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera are surely spinning in their graves, either because of the "rude humor, language, and some scary action" justifying the PG rating or because of all the dough this flick's gonna rake in.

However, the new Scooby Doo cartoons could be far worse, something than can not be said for either the live action film or the bulk of the new look Transformers and its offshoots.
Presumably due to the introduction of Scrappy Doo and by stealth, these appear to have been rebranded 'Scooby Doo, where are you?' To be honest, the old cartoons make little sense, with the bad guy being some completely random individual that neither the gang nor the audience have come across up until that point.
In 'Scooby Doo and the witch's house' it is a real witch that the gang come across, similarly the aliens in 'Scooby Doo and the alien invaders'.

Scooby Doo is the worst film of 2002.
People who were raised on "Scooby Doo," who watched the show in their jammies on Saturday mornings, have grown up, caught on to the underlying second level, and that's what has become cult.
I know that Scrappy Doo was the most annoying character in the series but to actually chance the whole character so that you could put him as the bad guy at the end was a let down.

The rest of the film follows the gradual unspooling of the plot and the inevitable reunion of the gang.
While the film didn’t make me a fan of the old TV show, I still thought it seemed decent, and it was definitely better than I anticipated.
As for print flaws, the film lacked any problems related to grit, speckles or other defects, but I saw somewhat higher than normal levels of artifacting; the image showed a lightly grainy look at times that seemed to result from that concern.

Scooby, Fred, Daphne, and all of the other characters and monsters are cel-shaded, packed with polygons, and fluidly animated, so they move around just like animated cartoon characters.

Okay, this film is rather sophmoric, but some of the jokes actually were effective, the special effects were very good (except for scooby-doo himself, who looked like something made on a home computer), and the creature designs were very creative.

And the comedy has all the hallmarks of a classic Scooby-Doo mystery: a haunted amusement park, a villain in disguise and, most importantly, a bunch of meddling kids.

"Scooby is the central character in the movie and a large amount of the inertia, the thrust of the movie, is born out of his look and mannerisms," Visual Effects Supervisor Peter Crosman explains.
"Scooby has an unlimited amount of facial expressions, just like a human actor, so he needed to be built correctly in terms of the muscle structure in his face, in his ears and eyes," Crosman reports.

Scooby Doo's blending of animation with real action seems to have confused director Raja Gosnell and writers Craig Titley and James Gunn.
Having taken more than 30 years for Scooby, Shaggy and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang to make the transition from TV to the big screen, it's hard to believe Warner Bros. couldn't have come up with something better than this lame, humourless yawn.

What films like these can do, if they’re truly clever, is move beyond mere children’s entertainment and aim for pleasing adult fans as well—and there are a large number of the latter, seeing as the show hasn’t been off the air since its debut in ’69.
Scooby himself has been CGI-ed with mixed effect; he doesn’t actually look much like the 2-D animated Scoob.
