	Scotland referendum, 1979 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Scotland referendum of 1979 was a post-legislative referendum held in Scotland only, over whether there was support for Scotland Act 1978, which if passed would have created an assembly for Scotland.
		There were special conditions on the referendum in the Act which said that for the Act not to be repealed, at least 40% of the electorate would have to vote Yes in the referendum.
		The referendum was held on March 1, 1979.

		This was the second referendum held in Scotland over the question of devolution, the first being the Scotland referendum, 1979.

		Scotland had significant representation in what we now consider to have been the "English Colonies in America." The New Jersey and Stuart's Town (in what is now South Carolina) Settlements and an ambitious Panamanian settlement plan were all heavily influenced and supported by the Kingdom of Scotland in the 1600's.
		The Massacre of Glencoe occurred in Glen Coe, Scotland early in the morning on February 13, 1692, during the era of the Glorious Revolution and Jacobitism.
		The aftermath was to have dire consequences for Scotland.

		I have been doing some work developing my website (which is now at http://www.election.demon.co.uk/election.html) and while preparing the results of the Scottish Parliament referendum I discovered a fairly big discrepancy in the count from Fife Council.
		Their reply suggests it may have resulted from voters demanding only the ballot paper for the second question, though presiding officers were instructed to give all voters both ballot papers, and such people would be marked as voting and therefore included anyway.
		The Scottish Office verified that the results which were issued were those which were certified by the counting officer in Fife and so they represent the result of the referendum in spite of being inaccurate.
