Much of the war for the Irish Guards would be fought at Ypres, and the name, "the Salient" was etched in their memory for all time.
This enabled the Guards regiments to better consolidate command at any given time and for the men to work with officers they were more familiar with when attacks got stalled or broken up by heavy casualties.
The Irish Guards, and the remainder of their brigade were moved over the next few days, constantly in reserve to assaults that would eventually fail due to the fact that the German positions were able to weather the heavy shelling of the British artillery.
