Scott Bruce Rolen (born April 4, 1975 in Evansville, Indiana) is an American baseball player, who currently plays at third base for the St.
The position of the third baseman A third baseman, abbreviated 3B, is the player in the sport of baseball whose responsibility is to defend the area nearest to third base, the third of four bases a baserunner must touch in a counterclockwise succession in order to score a run.
On July 29 2002, Rolen was traded, along with Doug Nickle, to the Cardinals for Plácido Polanco, Mike Timlin, and Bud Smith.

I got a kick out of the NY Post's Joel Sherman with his super headline, "Mets should rock with Rolen." I usually take him seriously, but the thought of acquiring Scott Rolen from the Philadelphia Phillies makes me shudder for the Mets.
This is the same Scott Rolen who accused the Philadelphia management of not committing themselves to winning, in spite of their offer of some $150 million to him on a long term deal.
Scott, in criticizing management, should have looked to himself as a partial failure for the team to be champs in 2001.

UPDATE: The AP is now reporting that Rolen will require a second surgery, which would almost certainly shut him down for the balance of the season and the postseason.
