Upshall was a member of the 2000 Royal Bank Cup winning Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
After 2 seasons playing major junior hockey for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers,and being name captian of Canadas world junior team, Upshall was drafted 6th overall by the Predators in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Upshall's two goals sparked a four-goal outburst by Milwaukee in the second period, and the Admirals skated to a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Road Runners on Saturday night at the Bradley Center.
