The Scottish Amateur Football Association (SAFA) is the organising body for amateur football across Scotland.
SAFA was formed in 1909 with the purpose of legislating for and fostering the amateur level of football in Scotland.
The SAFA run a nationwide "knockout" tournament, the Scottish Amateur Cup which is competed for by hundreds of football clubs across the country.

Along with the other home nations associations (The Football Association, Football Association of Wales and Irish Football Association) the SFA sits on the International Football Association Board which is responsible for the laws of the game.
They are the Scottish Amateur Football Association; Scottish Junior Football Association; Scottish Schools Football Association; Scottish Welfare Football Association; Scottish Women's Football Association and the Scottish Youth Football Association.

The President and Secretary for the time being of the Scottsh Football Association Ltd. shall be the legal owners of the Cup in trust for the Scottish Amateur Football Association.
In the semi-final and final ties, all receipts shall be retained by the Association and expenses incurred shall be borne by the Association.
Any player registered with The Scottish Football Association at 31st March will not be allowed to take part in the National and District Cups of the Scottish Amateur Football Association in the current season with the exception of The Highland Amateur Cup.

Each member club of the Association will be provided with a copy of the Constitution and Rules, and anything not dealt within them shall be dealt with by the Executive Committee, whose decision shall be final, subject to appeal to the Scottish Amateur Football Association, as detailed in Paragraph 44.
Because the Association and member clubs are in membership of the Scottish Amateur Football Association, all players must be amateur as currently defined by the Scottish Amateur Football Association.
Any such complaint when received by the Association will be given fair and full consideration by the Executive Committee, whose decision shall be final, subject to appeal to the Scottish Amateur Football Association as detailed in paragraph 44.If referee fails to appear for an Association cup tie or league match, the tie cannot be played.

MAFA officials were staying tight-lipped this morning — all enquiries were redirected to the Glasgow-based Scottish Amateur Football Association (SAFA), who, it is believed, had two representatives attending last night’s meeting, chairing proceedings in a neutral capacity.
A player could quite legitimately play in the Scottish Amateur Cup and North of Tay Cup (both under the auspices of SAFA), but couldn’t play in local cup or league games.
