It is affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (for the Scottish Church Collegiate School), the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Examination, and the University of Calcutta for the awarding of baccalaureate, post baccalaureate, undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The inception of what is now known as the Scottish Church College is intertwined with the life of Dr. Alexander Duff, D. (1806-1878), the first overseas missionary of the Church of Scotland, to India.
The Scottish Church College played a pioneering role in women's education as well as co-education in the country.

A refusal by the highest court of the Church of Scotland to debate the issue of homosexuality has been supported by the Rev David Lacy, who will become moderator of the Kirk's General Assembly next month.
