In 1857, this lady was born in Scottsville shortly after her father died, leaving her mother to care and support a family of three daughters under the age of four years.
This young man was born in Scottsville in 1860, the son of a wealthy merchant whose finances would be diminished by the Civil War.
In 1871, he attended Scottsville's first public school, although he was not keen on the idea because the teacher freely disciplined her students with a hickory switch.

Although Scottsville was without a library building, the bookmobile came from McIntire Library in Charlottesville and parked two hours a week in front of the school.
In May of 1982, ground was broken for a new building at the site of the old one and on December 29, 1982, the current 3900 square foot brick colonial building opened, furnished with a collection of antique reproductions given to the McIntire library by Charlottesville philanthropist Paul Goodloe McIntire.
Scottsville Branch Library, now open 48 hours a week with a staff of four, boasts a collection of more than 21,000 items and a circulation of approximately 7,000 items a month.

Before Scottsville could recover from the flood debts incurred from Camille, Hurricane Agnes struck with disastrous results on July 22, 1972.
Thanks to the efforts of Mayor Raymon Thacker, Scottsville was declared a federal disaster area which made townspeople eligible for loan consolidation and interest rate reduction.
Scottsville has not been flooded since that date, and the town's economy has slowly revitalized.
