Scout (sport) - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
Professional sports scouts are trained talent evaluators who travel extensively for the purposes of watching athletes play their chosen sports and determining whether their set of skills and talents represent what is needed by the scout's organization.
Many scouts are former coaches or retired players, while others have made a career just of being scouts.
Skilled scouts who help to determine which players will fit in well with an organization can be the major difference between success and failure for the team with regard to wins and losses, which often relates directly to the organization's financial success or lack thereof as well.

Scouting   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
British Scouting, by contrast, makes use of imagery drawn from the Indian subcontinent, because that region was a significant focus in the early years of the Scouting Movement.
If a Scout meets another Scout, even though a stranger to him, he must speak to him and help him in any way that he can, either to carry out the duty he is then doing, or by giving him food, or, so far as possible, anything that he may be in want of.
It is expected that a Scout will save every penny he can, and put it in the bank, so that he may have money to keep himself when out of work, and thus not make himself a burden to others; or that he may have money to give away to others when they need it.

 SCOUTING FACTS AND INFORMATION
Scouting began to spread throughout Great_Britain and Ireland soon after the publication of ''Scouting For Boys''.
The fleur-de-lis is an ancient symbol, originally used by Baden-Powell for the enlisted scouts of the British Army and subsequently adopted and modified for the Scout Movement.
The first schism within Scouting occurred during November 1909, when the ''British Boy Scouts'' (later the ''Brotherhood of British Scouts'', and known internationally as the ''Order of World Scouts'') was formed, initially comprising an estimated 25 per cent of all Scouts in the United_Kingdom, but rapidly declining from 1911 onward.

 Sports on Scout Stamps
Sports activities have always been a major part of Scouting and so many are seen on Scout stamps, especially the more recent ones, although the large numbers of these showing some sports do not always give a very true picture of the amount of participation by Scouts in these sports.
In fact, it was the first stamp to depict a Scout and also the first Scout sports stamp.
Since then, well over thirty different sports have been shown on Scout stamps, but they seem to reflect the ideas of stamp designeres who want to show exciting activities that look pretty rather than the sports more commonly enjoyed by the majority of Scouts.
