  Screamer (march)
Screamers were mostly composed in a 60-year period (1895-1955).
Because march music was the prominent part of American music at that time, and because it carried such a quick rhythm, it was this that ringleaders called for.
Although Screamers tend to follow the march form, many times they are abbreviated, and additions such as a quick cornet call introduction to a new melody, are included.

March (music) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Earlier marches, such as the ones from Ludwig Van Beethoven, Wolfgang Mozart, and George Frideric Handel tended to be part of a symphony or a movement in a suite.
It is said that march music truly began before the Gunpowder Age during which armies would maintain their troops' morale by marching with music playing, whether that be from the beat of a drum or bagpipe.
Marches written in 2/4 tend to be for the sake of the performer, as it is, for the most part, easier to read at faster tempos.

In repressive suburbia, there always appear signs that the teenaged members of the clan are not as enchanted with the idea of settling down into an utterly normal, regulated existence, but usually, the results are a few smashed mailboxes and a lot more smashed high schoolers.
Perhaps The Screamer couldn't get his sweaty hands on either of those, but if this was ever cause for complaint with him, it's certainly not for those able to hear his calls today.

Secondly, and how I first came to know the term, it is the nickname given to circus marches, generally taken at breakneck speeds and, in their original circus context, ending abruptly with a B-flat major chord as soon as the action in the ring had concluded.
Although John Philip Sousa’s “The Stars and Stripes Forever,” arguably the most famous American march, is not technically a screamer, it was, in fact, used in the circus in a fairly peculiar way.
Essentially, were the tightrope walker to fall and break his or her neck, or some other such horror occur, the Band would strike up the Sousa as a cue to “send in the clowns” to distract the audience while they attended to the injured performer.

 Eye - Give me a March Break! - 03.11.99
I don't know why they call it March "Break." I remember when I was a student at York University, I used to spend almost all of March "Break" working my butt off trying to pay off the back rent I owed the landlord for the shortest month of the year, February.
I think we should beseech the government to banish February altogether, and make January and March extra-long months, so that students and other impoverished types have time to pay their rent during the tough winter months.
In some universities March Break is referred to as "Reading Week." This enchanting phrase conjures up images of yourself curled up in a comforter reading the collected works of Shakespeare, just like the woman in the Lipton's Chicken Noodle Soup commercials.

We expect this ram-air drogue feature to be a resourceful low cost way of expanding the operational limitations of existing conventional cargo parachutes while increasing the precision of landings.
