Screamo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Screamo is a musical genre which evolved from emo, post-hardcore, more specifically hardcore emo in the early 1990s.
The influences that created screamo were numerous and far reaching, with the now defunct genre of emo violence being a primary factor, but also indie rock playing fundamental roles in the evolution of the genre.
However, screamo is now regarded as a distinct genre from hardcore punk—an offshoot with a distinct scene, culture, and identity.

articles : Ragged Rock: From Emo to Screamo : Youth Specialties
Screamo is a newer form of hardcore rock popularized by bands like The Used, Thursday, Glassjaw, Vendetta Red, and Poison the Well.
For one, screamo is probably too rough and ragged to ever be a widespread, mainstream success, but some of it sure does seem a whole lot more authentic and heartfelt than much contemporary pop music, including the vast majority of contemporary Christian music.
Even more important, screamo indicates that for at least some young people today, the world is such a frightening and inhospitable place that one of the most appropriate responses they can make is to let loose with a primal shriek.

 screamo
The majority of screamo bands are from the Northeastern or East coast of the United States (side-by-side with Hardcore coming out of the same area), but there are some bands coming out of Canada, France and Germany, as well as Australia.
Again, much like screamo's predecessor, emo, bands often release 7" records on independent labels, much in the spirit of D.I.Y. Some of the larger labels releasing primarily screamo records include Level Plane, Ebullition and Electric Human Project (though they also release other genres, namely hardcore).
Unfortunately, many screamo bands are short lived (which was also common with emo bands during its prime in the 90s), and oftentimes recorded material goes out of print.

MTV News - Screamo Comes Of Age On Ozzfest's Second Stage
Dubbed "screamo" or "extreme" by those who invent categories for such things, the groups write scathing, turbulent songs rooted equally in hardcore, metal and emo.
Like many of his screamo peers, who enjoy elements of metal but align themselves more closely with the ethics and aesthetics of hardcore, he has little respect for stereotypical heavy metal.
Screamo's progression to Ozzfest didn't happen in a weekend, and it required the right climate and circumstances to prosper.

 SCREAMO
You can also call it “screamo,” which is the name that we favor around here at Guitar World, acknowledging the music’s roots in and similarities to emo, while hinting at the extra added kick that comes from its traces of thrash and metal.
What the screamo bands add to all of the above are contrasting parts of their songs that are powered by rampaging, pile driver rhythms and deep, throaty vocals (there’s the screaming part) that have much more in common with thrash- and death-metal than with punk, emo, or indie-rock.
Not surprisingly, the screamo bands are winning fans in both the punk and the metal worlds: Thursday, Thrice, and the Used earned some of the biggest raves on this year’s edition of the Vans Warped Tour, while Glassjaw consolidated its growing fan base and often stole the day while touring as a part of Ozzfest.
