Thus is the rationale behind their latest Fat release entitled Weasel Mania (A tip of the cap no doubt to the band that first inspired Ben all those years ago).
Whether you grew up with 80's punk like Minor Threat and Dead Kennedys, or got introduced to the scene because the mid-90's second wave punk boom, Screeching Weasel is the underground's equivalent to a household name and one of the very few bands deserving of the title "essential".

Screeching Weasel are an often overlooked but seminal band in the development of the Ramones-influenced late eighties/early nineties “pop-punk” sound that eventually propelled Green Day to the status of one of the biggest bands in the world by 2005, and also gave rise to manufactured UK punk-lite pop groups such as Busted and McFly.
Screeching Weasel was the first non-Californian band to release a record on the label.
During this period Ben Weasel’s personal life was in turmoil, but the band still managed to record another album, “Emo.” The album was recorded live in the studio with almost the same personnel as “Television City Dream,” but with Weasel returning to guitar in the absence of the now-departed Damon.

Screeching Weasel’s future is in doubt – whether main man Ben Weasel will take the band into the studio again remains anybody’s guess.
If he intended to whip up some support, get a few new fans or play on our nostalgia with this collection it backfired: Weasel Mania is a tribute to the disposable, crappy and entirely forgettable songs from Screeching Weasel – most recorded in a time when most pop punk was anything but crappy and disposable.

Screeching Weasel has broken-up and reformed more times that I could keep track of.
I was pleased to hear that some Weasel classics like "She's Giving Me the Creeps" and "Joanie Loves Johnny" made their way onto the tracklist.
If you're not familiar with Screeching Weasel this would be a solid place to start, but there really is not much incentive for a hardcore fan to pick it up.
