Topic: Script computer programming

Scripting language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scripting languages (commonly called scripting programming languages or script languages) are computer programming languages initially designed for "scripting" the operations of a computer.
One way of looking at scripts is as "glue" that puts several components together; thus they are widely used for creating graphical user interfaces or executing a series of commands that might otherwise have to be entered interactively through keyboard at the command prompt.
Scripting languages are often designed for interactive use, having many commands that can execute individually, and often have very high level operations (for example, in the classic UNIX shell (sh), most operations are programs themselves).

Apple helped start the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with its Apple II and shaped it in the 1980s and since with the Macintosh.
The computer terminals available at that time were primarily paper-based; thermal printers like the Texas Instruments Silent 700 were the state of the art.
The first of these was co-designed with Sony, and established the modern layout for laptop computers that has remained popular ever since, with a rear hinge supporting the screen, and a keyboard placed towards the back of the lower deck with a trackball (later trackpad) in front.

Programming computers is a lot of work, or at least it requires a lot of information, or at least it takes a lot of time.
Scripting languages are similar to compiled languages except instead of transforming the source code into executable code to be run later, the compiller runs the code as it is being compiled.
What happens is the text file with the program is identified as a script instead of a simple text file and so the script compiler recognizes the script as one of its files to be run in much the same sense that a simple editor will recognize a text file as something it runs.

 Programming (Linux Reviews)
Computer programming (often simply programming) is the craft of implementing one or more interrelated abstract algorithms using a particular programming language to produce a concrete computer program.
Different programming languages require different levels of detail to be handled by the programmer when implementing algorithms, often resulting in a compromise between ease of use and performance (a trade-off between "programmer time" and "computer time").
Instead, programmers write source code, and a computer (running a compiler or an interpreter or an assembler) translates it through one or more translation steps to fill in all the details, before the final machine code is executed on the target computer.

Program logic determines the next step to execute in a procedural language and this logic determination is made in response to conditions and user action.
Visual Basic 6.0 is an event-driven programming language which has some of the elements of an object-oriented programming language, but not all of the features of an object-oriented programming language.
In the event-driven programming model the coded lines of the program are not written and executed in a sequential logic because the user action of clicking a key or checkbox or button triggers an event.

ScrollZ - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ScrollZ running on remote computer and used on Mac OS X.
The main difference between these scripts and ScrollZ is the code – whereas ircII scripts take a lot of disk and memory space and run slow, ScrollZ only takes a couple of extra kilobytes compared to the stock ircII client.
This was accomplished by using native C programming instead of scripting using ircII's language.

script - a Whatis.com definition   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-06)
1) In computer programming, a script is a program or sequence of instructions that is interpreted or carried out by another program rather than by the computer processor (as a compiled program is).
In general, script languages are easier and faster to code in than the more structured and compiled languages such as C and C++.
However, a script takes longer to run than a compiled program since each instruction is being handled by another program first (requiring additional instructions) rather than directly by the basic instruction processor.
