At the time, Marillion's remarkable, full-fledged 1983 debut Script for a Jester's Tear was considered an odd bird: replete with Peter Gabriel face paint and lengthy, technical compositions, Marillion ushered in a new generation of prog rock that bound them forever to the heroics of early day Genesis.
Intricate, complex, and theatrical almost to a fault, Script for a Jester's Tear remains the band's best and sets the bar for their later work.

 Fish (English)
Immediately, Fish and the rest of the band recorded an excellent debut album "Script for a Jester's Tear" that was released in March 1983.
Fish celebrates the 20th anniversary of releasing "Misplaced Childhood", the conceptual album recorded with his former band Marillion.
In 1978, he started to use the nickname Fish (instead of his rather funny surname Dick), his mean Scottish landlady gave him due to a very long bathing allowed by her only once a week.

Mick Pointer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He was apparently fired by the rest of the band after 1983's first studio album Script for a Jester's Tear, and, after trying out several other drummers, eventually replaced with Ian Mosley.
Pointer later formed the band Arena with Clive Nolan, after a longer break from the music business.
Mick Pointer was the original drummer and founding member of the progressive rock band Marillion.

Marillion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Marillion then released their first live album in November 1984 featuring songs from Fugazi, Script for a Jester's Tear and Cinderella Search (B-side to Assassing) recorded in March and July 1984.
Marillion are a British Rock group formed in Aylesbury in 1979, whose 13 studio album career is generally regarded as comprising of two distinct eras, delineated by the departure of original frontman Fish in late 1988 after their first 4 albums and the subsequent arrival of replacement Steve Hogarth in early 1989.
Marillion are currently recording new material with engineer Michael Hunter for their upcoming fourteenth studio album due out in late 2006 or early 2007.

Marillion issued their debut album, Script for a Jester's Tear, in 1983, and on the strength of a relentless touring schedule they won a loyal following.
Marillion's record label, EMI, gave the band a higher budget for the next album and the result of 15 months labor was Brave, a concept album that mixed classic symphonic progressive rock with standard rock.
Marillion emerged from the short-lived progressive rock revival of the early '80s to become one of the most enduring cult acts of the era.

 Amazon.co.uk: Music: Season's End
I would recommend Marillion's previous albums, especially the perfect trilogy of "Script For A Jester's Tear - Fugazi - Misplaced Childhood" for the ones who will start listening to Marillion.
Listening to Marillion at their best is a tremendous experience because the music is so grandiose and moving, it can appeal to almost any mood.
The replacement of self-important singer Fish by Steve Hogarth at the end of the eighties provided us with Seasons End, an album which proved that, against the wishes of the majority of the media, Marillion were not going to call it a day.

Amenophis - An Overall View - Detailed Reviews - ProgressoR
What is more, their debut album consists of much stronger, more complex and intricate structures than any other work of that period, including "Script for a Jester's Tear" and "Fugazy", successfully released by the same Marillion through the major "EMI".
Although the second album by Amenophis is stylistically somewhere in the vein of its predecessor, basic themes on "You and I" are a lot simpler, and truly progressive arrangements are few.
So "Amenophis", this really amazing work, actually a masterpiece of the genre, is one of the most important albums in the history of Progressive Rock.

 Peter Hammill/VdGG Etymology
PH/K opening for Marillion in their 1982 'Script for a Jester's Tear' tour, and the special thanks for Fish in the Usher liner notes (it is said that he was due to sing the part Andy Bell eventually took).
Henk enlightens: The electrostatic device, called the 'Van de Graaff Generator' transports electrons from ground potential to an area with high potential by means of a rubber band (which is insulating, of course).
The electrons are put on the band by a metal comb: the sharp edges of the comb produce such a strong electrical field that with a small voltage difference, the electrons are 'sprayed' out of the comb and put on the band.

"Misplaced Childhood" was the band's third full length album, following "Script for a Jester's Tear" and "Fugazi".
Misplaced is the final chapter and has the most pop hooks in it, but it is still a complex and masterful album.
The greatest sadness of the CD era is the loss of Mark Wilkinsons stunning cover art, which really loses some of the detail when not on big LP record covers.

Marillion : Misplaced Childhood - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
After the album-tour-album cycle of Script for a Jester's Tear, Fugazi, and the subsequent Euro-only release of Real to Reel, Marillion retreated to Berlin's Hansa Ton Studios with Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey to work on their next opus.
Armed with a handful of lyrics born out of a self-confessed acid trip, Fish came up with the elaborate concept for 1985's Misplaced Childhood.
The subsequent U.S. success of "Kayleigh" would also see Marillion returning to the States for a difficult tour as Rush's support act.
