The two most common scrod fish in the Boston market are haddock scrod and cod scrod, and it is haddock scrod that supports the Boston fishermen.
Whether haddock or cod, scrod is that part of the fish between the body cavity and the tail filleted or split into two equal sections.

Some people claim that "scrod" is a young cod, while "schrod" is a young haddock, but, in fact, there's no difference - it's basically whatever's cheaper at the fish pier that day.
Scrod is a size of fish, used to measure both haddock and cod.
scrod could be cod (and commonly was) but it might be also be haddock and was generally one of those two "back in the day" when they were both common catch.

Webster says scrod is "a young fish (as a cod or haddock)." You figure we're going to give you grief for not looking this up yourself.
There is a small difference in the quality of the meat in the immature fish--I'm sure a sophisticated palate could probably make the distinction, based mostly on texture.

As a boomer child of the upper midwest, there are a lot of ocean fishes for which I've never developed a taste, but moving to Boston and discovering inexpensive scrod was a revelation.
Scrod, of course, is no longer so cheap, as we've fished our cod stocks into near extinction, but if you can find some, this is easy and quick.
