Lorenzo Bandini - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lorenzo Bandini (born 21 December 1935 in Cyrenaica, Libya; died 10 May 1967) was an Italian Formula One driver who raced for the Scuderia Centro Sud and Ferrari teams.
He then raced in Formula Junior, until in 1961 he was invited to join Scuderia Centro Sud in Formula One, at a non-championship race, in which he finished third.
Between 1964 and 1966, Bandini won the Le Mans 24 Hours race, along with Ludovico Scarfiotti; he also returned to Scuderia Centro Sud, but Ferrari claimed him back, where he ended up as the number one driver, replacing John Surtees who left in mid-season of 1966.

Bandini won the Le Mans 24 Hours with Lodovico Scarfiotti and then Mimmo Dei revived Scuderia Centro-Sud and bought a BRM and Bandini began racing that at the French GP.

 8W - What? - Scuderia Centro Sud
The Scuderia Centro Sud was the hobby project of Guglielmo Dei, a Maserati dealer for Central and Southern Italy - hence the name Centro Sud.
Complementing these washed-up stars on the Centro Sud driving squad were a host of drivers with a suspicious pedigree, like the Signori Natili, Bassi, Brambilla (Tino), Thiele, De Tomaso or Bussinello, doing their rent-a-driver avant la lettre bit in the team's second car.
For the first time in Centro Sud history Maserati would not be involved, but the team had to wait until the BRM factory had no need for the spare car anymore after its P261 successor was finally launched.
