The SdKfz 232 was the command and control version of the SdKfz 231.
It differed from the SdKfz 231 only in the presence of the "bow" antenna which was used for its wireless communications between cars.
With the SdKfz 232 you don't have to remove the "plates" where the radio antenna go into since the radio antenna is meant for this version.

Roden has recently rectified that situation in 1/72 scale with the release of the entire SdKfz 231 (8 rad) family of vehicles - the SdKfz 231, SdKfz 232, SdKfz 233 (not yet released as of February 2004), and the SdKfz 263 command vehicle.
The box has very evocative box art of an SdKfz 231 in Russia during the frozen winter of 1941/1942, with a four-view colour rendition of one of the four markings options on the back of the box (only Humbrol colours are called out in the instructions, incidentally).
The major compromise is using the same turret and hull for both the SdKfz 231 and SdKfz 232.

The prototype TB was sold for prestige and replaced with 2 SdKfz 6/2 units.
The SdKfz 6/2 (I) went from 0 to 89 attacking the allied aircraft.
If I had downgraded it to an SdKfz I would have lost the "freebie" prestige under the cap anyway and also tied up a Leader slot with a "Bridging" Leader.

Although the 231 series had its merits, a revised design with air-cooled engine was developed with use in hot climates in mind.
This later series is not described in the same detail as the 231 with no photos of the new engine, but there are two good photos of the 234/2 turret interior and the guns on preserved 234/3 and 234/4 which also get a few colour shots.

This mounted a 2cm FlaK gun for its main armament and the MG34 7.62mm machine gun was used for secondary armament.
One of the most noticable features between the two main types of 8 rad armoured cars was the mud guards, the earlier versions had two each side whereas the later versions had one continuous mud guard with comparments in the upper section.
