		After the decision was made to plant wine grapes at Sde Boker he decided that he wanted to make wine, to make a finished product and not just provide raw materials for others to use.
		So after working in the orchards at Sde Boker for 13 years, (six of them as manager) he took a sabbatical with his family in 1995 from the kibbutz and returned to California.

		The 30th anniversary of the death of Israel's first Prime Minister and the man who declared the State of Israel's independence, David Ben-Gurion, was commemorated today in the Negev community Sde Boker.
		Ben-Gurion, who saw the flowering of the Negev as one of the major challenges of his generation, moved to Sde Boker in 1953, after the first of his two resignations from Israel's top office.
		He quoted Ben-Gurion as having said that though Israel is militarily able to capture all of "western Land of Israel," it would then not be able to be both Jewish and democratic because of the large number of Arabs living there.

	Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva, Israel
		This beautiful little flycatcher with its ‘wheatear-like’ tail pattern is a rather scarce passage migrant in Israel, mostly in the latter part of the autumn with a handful also recorded in spring.
		Amit was lucky enough to detect a small passage of Red-breasted Flycatchers at Ben Gurion College, Sde Boker with up to three present in late October.
		His notes recorded the following; 22.10.03- 1 at the desert research center 23.10.03- 1 at the Caravan neighborhood 26.10.03- 2 new individuals, one at the Lego neighborhood and one at the desert research center, with the individual from the 23rd still present, bringing today’s total to 3 birds.

		In June 1970, Ben-Gurion retired from political life and returned to Sde Boker where he died at the age of 87 in 1973.
