 Scrub Slug
The term "scrub slug" is military slang for a class of large, "footed" ground vehicles, deriving from a more archaic reference to a class of scavenger vehicle that used this form of locomotion.
Modern scrub slugs might actually be better referred to as "land carriers" or "mobile bases" than the scavenger vehicles they inherit their name from.
As scrub slugs were never designed for actual combat operations, their relative bulk and slow speed of movement were never considered much of an issue.

Starting in the post-World War II era the guns were joined by the guided missile, specifically the "surface-to-air missile", and today both are used in combination in most roles.
Originally missiles were useful only as a replacement for the very largest of anti-aircraft guns, but by the 1960s they had been scaled down to the point where they were also replacing smaller weapons previously serviced by guns in the 40 mm to 57 mm range.
Air defence by air forces is typically taken care of by fighter jets carrying air-to-air missiles which is beyond the scope of this article, however most air forces choose to augment air base defence with surface-to-air missile systems as they are such valuable targets for enemy aircraft.

 DoD Defends New Sub-Launched Missiles
The conventional Trident missile would be capable of hitting a fleeting target -- such as an enemy nuclear weapon being prepared for launch or terrorist leaders in an underground facility -- without using a nuclear warhead that runs a higher risk of killing innocent civilians nearby, according to a senior defense official.
The Navy proposes to modify its D-5 missile with two different conventional warheads: a standard “slug” useful in penetrating buried targets and a “flechette” designed to attack larger targets on the surface, the official told reporters at a March 7 meeting.
The submarine-launched missile is expected to have a flight time of just 12 to 24 minutes and could hit targets up to 6,000 miles away with an accuracy of 10 yards, said the senior official, who spoke on condition of not being named.

The Secret Lives Of Sea Slugs
The new research is significant because the sea slug known as Tritonia diomedea, a nudibranch mollusc species found in the shallow northeast Pacific, is important in laboratory studies of the how the brain controls behavior, a field known as neuroethology.
The study sheds light on the sea slug's navigation, feeding, mating, and egg-laying behavior, and confirms that many of this creature's behaviors in the wild are similar to published descriptions of laboratory behavior.
The goal of neuroethologists who study sea slugs in the laboratory is to link specific behaviors to their underlying neural controls.
