In Mormonism, a sealing is an ordinance (ritual), generally performed in temples, that "seals" familial relationships, purportedly making possible the existence of family relationships throughout eternity.
Sealings are typically performed as marriages or as sealing of children to parents.
A sealed couple who have successfully kept their religious covenants, and whose sealing remains in force after death is said to have their sealing “sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise”.

In Mormonism, an ordinance is a religious ritual of special significance, often involving a covenant with God.
Sealings are ceremonies in which husband is bound to wife, and children to parents, for all eternity.
The emphasis on the physical aspect of the ordinance is the basis for the Mormon practice of performing ordinances vicariously for the dead.

The Church consider the temple ordinances, including sealings and the Endowment, to be very sacred and confidential.
In Mormonism, an ordinance is a ritual of special significance, usually involving a covenant with God.
Most ordinances are performed outside the temple; for example, Mormons perform Baptisms, Confirmations, the Sacrament, ordinations to the Priesthood, patriarchal blessings, blessing and anointing of the sick, and blessings of newborn children, in homes or meetinghouses.

Chief among these is The Book of Mormon, which members believe is a record that was kept by ancient Prophets who lived in the Americas and was engraved on Golden Plates, translated by the power of God through the Urim and Thummim.
Although Mormon theology sees the Heavenly Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost as separate beings, they are considered to be "one God" in most every other possible sense — most importantly they are one in purpose.
Mormonism posits most of the same attributes to the members of the Godhead that Trinitarian Christianity posits to the Trinity : Omnipotence, Omniscience, Omnibenevolence, Eternal, Immutable, Immortality, and Immanence in the universe but not Transcendence of it.

Sealing Men to Men   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
As most people who are familiar with Mormonism know, dedicated Mormons believe in sealing women to men and children to their parents for all eternity.
Few people, however, are aware of the fact that the early Mormons sealed living men to other men in an unusual ceremony known as "the law of adoption." Thus a man could have any number of men adopted to himself as his sons for eternity.
Although the sealing of men to men who were not of their own lineage seemed to revive for a season, it eventually suffered a death blow.

The sealing room in the Washington, D.C. LDS temple contains an altar at the center.
However, "Eternal Marriages" are also performed vicariously for the deceased so that once all the prior temple ordinances are completed for a deceased individual, couples who were not sealed during their life may be sealed to each other and their children by proxy.

A sealing is performed either as a covenant marriage between a man and a woman, or as a sealing of children to their parents.
A couple who has been sealed may have their sealing "cancelled", but this is uncommon, occurs only under special circumstances and is only granted by the highest LDS officials.
The sealing of a sealed couple whose union has been disrupted by a civil divorce (amicable or acrimonious) is not likely to remain in force; it is more likely that either or both individuals have not successfully kept their religious commitmements.

Eternal Marriage is legally recognized, but unlike other civil marriages, Eternal Marriage is not intended to be for time only or until "death do you part"; it is intended to continue into the next life after the resurrection if the man and woman do not break their covenants.
Sealed couples who keep their covenants are also promised to have their posterity sealed to them in the after life.
Civil divorce and marriage outside the temple is somewhat of a stigma in the Mormon culture although currently the Church itself directs its local leaders not to advise members about divorce one way or another.
