fringereviews.com - Brighton Comedy Festival 2002 - Sean Lock   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
This was a very tough shift at the comedy coalface for Sean Lock and an even tougher one for his audience, some of whom had resorted to making their own entertainment long before the end of this poor show.
Lock lost the sympathy of his audience early on when a heckle aimed at his brown suit developed into the first of several exchanges in which Lock, lacking the ability to charm or outwit, resorted to the bludgeon of crude and unfunny abuse.
This approach backfired, making Lock appear weak and desperate, so much so that a couple of hecklers in this polite crowd were actually moved to apologise to the comedian for the discomfort that their outbursts had obviously caused him.

Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | Sean Lock
Sean Lock is far from being the only stand-up purveying his sort of low-key free-associative humour, owing as much to wordplay as to the far-fetched "imagine if" conceit.
Lock is a curious mixture of brazenly confident and sheepishly apologetic, and such a relaxed presence that he barely bothers to project any conventional showbiz front, just breezing a sort of muted glee.
Lock is pitching it slightly more gently than he has in the past, which makes his current set engaging rather than hysterical.

BBC - Comedy Guide - 15 Storeys High
The scripts manifested the nagging annoyances of everyday existence which, being the basis of Sean Lock's standup act, seem to be something of an obsession for the comedian.
(On stage, Lock was dour and deadpan to the point of making Jack Dee seem like Norman Wisdom.) The TV adaptation so lacked in colour it was almost fl and white, and a grim realism was cultivated by the life-etched characters and location shooting on the Brandon Estate in Kennington, south London.
There were two series of Sean Lock: 15 Storeys High on BBC Radio 4, the first (6 x 15 minutes) from 30 December 1998 to 3 February 1999, the second (5 x 30 minutes) from 24 November to 22 December 1999.

Equally as funny are the short stories of the other residents living in the tower block that are interspersed between the antics of Vince and Errol.
