Sean MacDiarmada was a member of the secret military Council which planned the rising and, as such, held a position of great importance and trust.
She and Sean MacDiarmada addressed many meetings together advocating the new idea that 'the elected representatives should not attend the British Parliament at Westminster.' The result of the election was a complete defeat for DOLAN, the Sinn Fein candidate.
It was Sean MacDiarmada that read Padraig Pearse's letter of surrender to those in the G.P.O. After the surrender The G.P.O. garrison was huddled together on the grass patch outside the Rotunda Hospital, surrounded by a ring of British bayonets.

Sean MacDermott (February 28, 1883 – May 12, 1916) was one of the leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916 in Ireland.
In 1908 he moved to Dublin, by which time he was already involved in several separatist organizations, including Sinn Fein, and the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB).
The form of his name used here, "Sean MacDermott", is a hybrid of the English and Gaelic forms of his name, and for that reason may be considered inaccurate.

Late on Holy Saturday night MacDiarmada got word of MacNeill's Countermanding Order appearing in the "Sunday Independent" (Note*** MacNeill did not agree with the Rising and knew that the practice maneuvers of the Irish Volunteers planned for Easter Sunday was a cover for an uprising.
He was so seriously wounded that when he was executed on May 12, with Sean MacDiarmada he had to be strapped into a chair.
Sean Heuston commanded the Volunteers at the Mendicity Institution.

Full copies of the Easter Proclamation are now treated as a revered Irish nationalist icon, and a copy was recently sold at auction for €390,000.
A copy owned (and later signed as a memento) by Rising participant Sean T. O'Kelly was presented by O'Kelly, by then President of Ireland, to the Irish parliament buildings, Leinster House, where it is on permanent display in the main foyer.
Other copies are on display in the GPO (headquarters of the Rising and the place where the Proclamation was first read), the National Museum of Ireland and other museums worldwide.
