The X-Files: The Complete Eighth Season | PopMatters Television Review
Yes, this is the season where David Duchovny flew the coop and his alter ego, Fox Mulder, found himself non-coincidentally abducted by aliens.
Season Eight finishes up with "Existence" (8.21), which is capped by a personal moment between Mulder and Scully so tender and lovely that it could've served as a nice closer to the series, or at least to those two characters.
But the nature of Season Eight's changes were its undoing; when a television series grows in depth and complexity, more often than not, there's no going back.

Television program - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A television movie ("made-for-TV" movie) is a movie that is initially aired on television rather than being released in theatres or direct-to-video, although many successful television movies are later released on video.
The content of television programmes may be factual, as in documentaries, news, and reality television, or fictional as in comedy and drama.
While television series appearing on TV networks are usually commissioned by the networks themselves, their producers earn greater revenue when the programme is sold into syndication.

The season opener, "Cancelled," is similarly unfortunate, built on an extended critique of reality shows that was old hat in 2003 and even worse now.
This is a surprising flop, considering that it's one of a number of Season Seven shows with input from TV legend Norman Lear, the creator of -- among other things -- All in the Family (Parker and Stone claim Archie Bunker as a direct influence on Eric Cartman).

HORRORWATCH :: Millennium - The Complete Second Season - television - Horror Movie Reviews
But where season two lays most of it's ground work is in the secrets of the Group itself and they have ties to everything from Saint Sebastian to the Third Reich, it makes for some great and interesting stories, but it just never seemed to gel with the work done in season one.
Season two does have some great episodes in the vein of season one, but they were few and far between, the episodes "Monster" and "The Mikado" are two great examples of this, but the best episode of the season belongs to "Somehow Satan Got Behind Me" which is an incredible hour of entertainment.
Season two is enjoyable, just not as much as the first, but it does leave not only the viewer with a great cliff hanger, but also the entire world as "the end" may be coming sooner than anyone thought.

These are just a few of the intriguing questions posed by the new fall TV season, which features the talents of Black performers on nine new shows-two on CBS, three on NBC, one on ABC, one on Fox and two independently produced syndicated shows.
While the new fall TV lineup marks the debut of entertaining new programs, the biggest news perhaps is the television return of veteran comedian Redd Foxx, who stars as Alexander Royal, an Atlanta mailman, in the CBS sitcom The Royal Family.
Whatever the answers to these questions, this should be an exciting season for Bill Cosby, who has said that 1991 will be the final run for the fabulous Huxtables.

However, what we forget when looking back at the first season of "M*A*S*H" was that it was a traditional situation comedy in the beginning and that it was not, from the start, the great show that it became when it hit full stride.
Of course, the television series was also burdened with toning down the blood and sex from the Robert Altman movie on which it was based.
All television shows evolve and that is certainly the case with "M*A*S*H," as Radar O'Reilly becomes more innocent as the show progresses and Klinger and Father Mulcahy are worked into the ensemble.
