The Sandman: Season of Mists - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Season of Mists (1992) is the fourth collection of issues in the DC Comics series, The Sandman, written by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Kelley Jones, Mike Dringenberg, Malcolm Jones III, Matt Wagner, Dick Giordano, George Pratt and P.
Season of Mists is the first rehearsal of one of the central themes of the series, that of rules and responsibilities and whether we can lay them down.
The Endless family conference which opens the book makes the second reference to the "prodigal" (the first reference appearing in "The Doll's House"), an Endless sibling who abandoned his realm and responsibilities, and centres around Lucifer deciding he doesn't want to be the devil anymore.

Season Of Mists is one of the most accessible chapters of the Sandman mythos, which was always more interested in matters of the human heart than wildly fantastical ideas.
Season Of Mists tells how, thousands of years ago, Dream imperiously banished his human lover Nada to Hell because she rejected his offer to become his queen.
All eight issues of Season Of Mists are collected in paperback and hardback form.

That's the basis for the Season of Mists storyline in Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.
The story of two boys -- one living and one dead -- at an English boarding school is poignant, funny and sad, and the extra-busy Death makes a grand cameo appearance in tights and running togs.
Season of Mists is yet another great stride by Gaiman as he unravels his new mythology.

Thompson's story, while including enough references to Season of Mists to bring everyone up to speed, focuses primarily on Dream's big sister, Death, whose apartment is overrun by the dead with no place to go now that Hell has closed up shop.
The story cleverly intertwines with events from Season of Mists while introducing plenty of new action.

It takes place at the same time as Sandman’s Season of Mists, in which Dream is given the key to Hell.
If you’re familiar with Season of Mists, you will notice that an annoyingly large amount of At Death’s Door is lifted directly from it, scene by scene and line by line.
There is no particular reason for this story to be drawn as manga — unlike Thompson's adorable Little Endless, who were drawn as podgy picture-book characters because they were part of a children's story — so the style seems disconnected from the story.
