Seasons End was the first album we wrote together.
It is only with the benefit of hindsight that we can see that ‘Seasons End' coverwise was a bridge between the strong illustrative work of Mark Wilkinson and the photographic approach preferred by the studio at the time.
In many respects this album was the visual template for the three singles that came off it: ‘Hooks in You', ‘Uninvited Guest' and ‘Easter'.

Seasons End (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Seasons End was the first album recorded by Marillion after the split with Fish in late 1988.
Seasons End was mostly finished by the time Hogarth joined Marillion, and only a couple of songs on it actually have some pieces written by him, most notably Easter and The Space.
The new frontman was fully accepted by the fans, and the Seasons End Tour is the biggest tour Marillion has done with Steve as the band's singer.

 Untitled Document
Seasons End is the dividing point between Marillion's two gargantuan eras.
The entire album is an exact reflection of the band's aims at the time, which in large part meant proving that Marillion was not a band caught up in a specific point in time; a trend waiting to be forgotten.
That set a priority of excellently arranged music with a certain degree of accessibility for Seasons End, and the outcome was a band inclined to more atmospheric aural surroundings, probably due to the fact that Hogarth's vocals demanded a truly natural ambience to flow freely and gracefully throughout the album.

England Made Me, MP3 Album Music Download at eMusic
Black Box Recorder is harshly critical of life in England, the bland, dull mundanities of daily living as well as the stale political world, and their debut album touches on issues ranging from teenage sex and single mothers to repressive family life and wife swapping.
Such topics are seemingly impossible to weave into listenable pop music, but the songs that multi-instrumentalists Luke Haines and John Moore write are cleanly stylized in a way that conceals the raw-nerved lives their characters exist in but are also reflective of the internalization of such relentless barrenness.
The title song is a funereal lament, and songs such as "It's Only the End of the World" and "Hated Sunday" are sad-sack gloomy tunes that are capable of inspiring open weeping in two ways-with their base bleakness and with the beautifully brittle music.

 PROGRESSIVEWORLD.NET: REVIEWS BY STEPHANIE SOLLOW
My initial reaction to Seasons End was mixed, but improved once I got past the "it's not Fish" phase… Steve Hogarth didn't have the same kind of presence that Fish had, and I'll admit I tried to hear these songs with Fish on vocals.
It's a transitional album, and though the epic-length, ecologically themed "Seasons End" provides the album's title, you can also read something a little more into that title, given that it is a transitional album.
The first post-Fish album had to strike the very balance H was trying to achieve, and only in retrospect do we see that it achieved its goal.

VH1.com : The Four Seasons : Biography - Urge Music Downloads
The Four Seasons had been around for a long time before they got their first hit in 1962.
The Four Seasons' influence, oddly, was also felt on a couple of tracks by the biggest British Invasion bands: the Beatles' "Tell Me Why" and the Rolling Stones' "The Singer Not the Song" both launched into ear-straining falsettos at points, whether as a satire, tribute, or both.
The Four Seasons struggled on into the 1970s; by the time they signed with a Motown subsidiary in 1971, Valli and Gaudio were the only original members left.

The album begins with "Hero," a scream-filled opus that showcases singer Lajon Witherspoon's position as one of the top singers in his field as he blasts through the song with his R&B inspired growling.
The song appears to be about losing a wife to divorce, which ends the album on a very somber note.
Now that TVT isn't breathing down their necks to make a radio-friendly album, they are more apt to create some really great music for their fans and return to their position as one of the most respected bands in metal.

All stages of Lana's career to date are represented on the album: From her powerful debut, LOVE IS AN ILLUSION, the album features the hard rock title track as well as the AOR favorite "Through the Fire".
Concerned that often a "Best Of" album signals the end of an artist's viable creativity, Lana specifically added the suffix of "1995-1999" to the album title, assuring her fans that she will produce new classic and timeless music for many years to come.

It is said in the record industry that it takes three albums to break an artist.
Lana's 1995 debut album, Love is an Illusion, was a fairly commerical hard rock album, while her 1996 follow up, Curious Goods, was a much more experimental and progressive album.
It was perhaps a bit risky to employ such a progressive instrument on an album as melodic as this one, but I believe the result was a success in the end.

In 1999 Marillion released a remastered version of Seasons End, including a bonus disc of outtakes and alternate versions as well as the previously unreleased "The Bell in the Sea" and "The Release." Both are strong tracks and are welcome additions to the Marillion catalog.

Marillion… now that’s a band that I haven’t heard from in a looooong time.; I think it was when former lead singer Fish left the band and current vocalist Steve Hogarth replaced him for their disappointing “Seasons End” album when I last heard them.
Of course I was unaware of their musical journeys because we Americans are so wishy washy in taste for music that truly talented bands never get the recognition they deserve and Marillion is one of those bands.
Of course the songs “Between You and Me” from the “Holidays in Eden” CD and the one song I did know, “Uninvited Guest” from Seasons End are song that I really enjoy and find Hogarth and co. at their best.

It alternates between these two sections, but the end of the song merges the lyrical content of both with the music of the more upbeat section in a more powerful form to close out the piece.

Although none of the individual cuts were destined to become standards and the music does not necessarily conjure up the image of the various seasons, one has to give Broderick and his quartet credit for being ambitious and generally successful.

Plenty of mood changes such as the one at the end where we move into a rather relaxed Pendragon style passage with a soaring guitar.
The music becomes certainly less like Genesis afterwards, but there's one rather strong reference to Yes in there still and the organ/guitar solo at the end might well remind some of the Flower Kings at their most active.
