In 1968, the Queen Elizabeth was sold to a group of Philadelphia businessmen who intended to operate the ship as a hotel and tourist attraction (similar to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California) in Port Everglades, Florida.
Renamed the Seawise University, it was destroyed by fire on January 9, 1972, in Hong Kong harbour.
The hulk is briefly shown and commented on in the 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun, when James Bond, traveling from Macao to Hong Kong by hydrofoil, passes nearby.

Seawise University was the name given by Hong Kong businessman Tung Chao Yung to the former RMS Queen Elizabeth when he purchased it and moved it to Hong Kong Harbour in 1970.
Because of serious problems with the boilers of the old liner, it took the ship 6 months to go to Hong-Kong.
However the vessel was gutted by a fire that broke out at different places onboard, believed to be arson, in January 1972 and was scrapped in 1975, before the project could ever be truly realised.
