The space of Sechura was settled more than 7000 years ago, becoming an ethnic nation around the year 400 B.C. and having his own ideology and language: “The SEC”.
In 1728 when Sechura was destroyed by the river and a tidal wave, the inhabitants moved to the present place.
Located 10 Km from Sechura on the northit owns a very impressive ecosystem and with a life zone constituted by the water mirror, the gramadal mangrove, small isles, muddy areas where a great diversity of species can be found.

The Sechura desert is a desert or savanna ecoregion of coastal Peru.
The name sechura derives from a culture that developed called the SEC, around the year 400 B.C. In 1728 the old Sechura town was destroyed by a tsunami and moved to its current location.
The desert occupies a strip along the northern Pacific coast of Peru south of the Piura Province, extending from the coast 20-100 km inland to the secondary ridges of the Andes Mountains.

The southern limit of the Vicus terrotory was the the Sechura Desert, which was the northern limit of the Moche territory.
They continue to argue whether Loma Negra was a Moche colony, a Moche military camp or a place of commerce used by the towns both to the north and south of the Sechura Desert.
In 1980, samples of these ceramic vases were analyzed by potters from Chulucanas (descendants of the artisans from the nearby village of Simbila), and they rediscovered the ancient techniques used to fabricate the vases found in Loma Negra, namely the techniques of "negative painting" and "flening".

In 1995 the Mayor of Sechura presented the Medal of the City to Mother General and declared her to be the privileged Daughter of Sechura at a public ceremony in the Plaza de Armas of the city.
The Sechura Municipalidad passed a resolution, signed by the Mayor, which records the aid obtained by Mother General for the Sechura drinking water supply; the reinforcing of the main water storage tank for the city; for the setting up of the first small hospital in the city with surgical equipment; and other needed aid.
The Museum was conceived with the intention of showing the local people and people from outside Peru, a panoramic synthesis of the most representative expressions of the entire culture of Sechura.

During August 2004, the municipalities of Sechura, Ayabaca, Tabalosos and Nueva Cajamarca -that are part of the STPP- launched workshops in coordination with WSP-LAC to start promoting local operators.
Workshop in Northern Peru: The workshop organized by the municipalities of Sechura and Ayabaca was held in the city of Piura on August 14th and gathered 40 attendees among entrepreneurs, merchants and technicians of the Northern Provinces.
Even though the profile of the operators for Sechura and Ayabaca are different (Sechura has over 25,000 inhabitants while Ayabaca has only 6,000), the interest in working in both small towns is remarkable, however the operators are demanding different working requirements according to the specific local conditions.

This ecoregion, comprised of the Atacama and Sechura deserts, forms a continuous strip of desert for almost 3,500 km (1,300 miles) along the coast of Chile and Peru.
Nevertheless, this ecoregion contains approximately 1300 species of plants of which 60 per cent of Atacama and 40 per cent of Sechura plants are endemic, with only 68 species found in both regions.
The Atacama-Sechura Deserts ecoregion has distinctive desert plants, particularly ferns, cone-bearing plants, cacti, and flowering plants that survive by absorbing moisture from fog and dew.
