Second Nephi 1:1's declaration that Lehi begins "after I, Nephi, had made an end of teaching my brethren" would be correct chronologically, but not necessarily an event that followed in immediate succession.
Second Nephi begins with the recitation of the final discourses of Lehi, and contain important teachings from that great man. Lehi's teachings in first Nephi are minimized, and as noted, are used as a launching point for Nephi.
The specifics of the second phrase and the subsequent history of the Lamanites suggests that it was this second condemnation that fell upon them, and that Lehi had perhaps seen that future in a vision so that he could so well describe it.

The Second Book of Nephi (2 Nephi) is a work written about 550 B.C. by the same author who wrote 1 Nephi and included it on his small plates.
The second book contains four prophetic discourses and treatises from three Book of Mormon prophets, Lehi, Jacob, and Nephi1, as well as substantial excerpts of the prophecies of Isaiah from the brass plates.
As Nephi wrote of his delight in pondering the scriptures and "the things of the Lord," he was moved to compose a beautiful psalm (4:16-35).

 The Second Book of Nephi
And now it came to pass that after I, Nephi, had made an end of teaching my brethren, our father, Lehi, also spake many things unto them, and rehearsed unto them, how great things the Lord had done for them in bringing them out of the land of Jerusalem.
And he spake unto them concerning their rebellions upon the waters, and the mercies of God in sparing their lives, that they were not swallowed up in the sea.
Wherefore, because thou hast been faithful thy seed shall be blessed with his seed, that they dwell in prosperity long upon the face of this land; and nothing, save it shall be iniquity among them, shall harm or disturb their prosperity upon the face of this land forever.

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THE BOOK OF MORMON
For most of the LDS church's 150 year history, it was staunchly maintained by the church leaders that there were no changes in the Book of Mormon of a doctrinal nature.
”..there was not one thing in the Book of Mormon or in the second edition or in any other edition since that in any way contradicts the first edition, and such changes as were made were made by the prophet Joseph Smith because under those adverse conditions the Book of Mormon was published.
Many other citations could be given, but "out of the mouths of two or three witnesses..." it is evident that although the Lord supposedly dictated the Book of Mormon letter by letter, he could not spell, keep doctrine or characters straight, and even had serious problems with grammar and logic.
