  Induction Coil - LoveToKnow 1911
Induction coils are employed for physiological purposes and also in connexion with telephones, but their great use at the present time is in connexion with the production of high frequency electric currents, for Röntgen ray work and wireless telegraphy.
A general description of the mode of constructing a modern induction coil, such as is used for wireless telegraphy or Röntgen ray apparatus, is as follows: The iron core consists of a bundle of soft iron wires inserted in the interior of an ebonite tube.
The secondary coil consists of No. 36 or No. 32 silk-covered copper wire, and each of the sections is prepared by winding, in a suitable winding machine, a flat coiled wire in such a way that the two ends of the coil are on the outside.

The secondary coil opening is preferably rectangularly shaped, with the dimension of the opening as measured along the longitudinal direction of said vehicle being at least 1.5 times the dimension of the central extending portion of the primary core as measured along said longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
The secondary coil 2 is enclosed by a resin case 20 having a pair of leg portions 22 projecting downward from the bottom of the case and a rectangular center opening 21.
The secondary alternating current appearing across the secondary coil 2 is rectified by two pairs of transistors T1, T2 and T3, T4 in the bridge rectifying circuit into a direct current for charging the battery B of the vehicle 1 connected to the secondary coil 2.

How Things Work - Question 1498
Remember that the current flowing in the secondary coil is itself magnetic and because it is an alternating current, it is accompanied by its own electric field.
The secondary coil's electric field opposes the primary coil's electric field, in accordance with a famous rule of electromagnetism known as Lenz's law.
The primary coil's electric field was pushing backward on current passing through the primary coil, so the secondary coil's electric field must be pushing forward on that current.

 Low Voltage Transformers
The second coil, called the secondary coil is energized by the magnetic force created by the primary coil.
Depending on the number of turns of the secondary coil relative to the primary coil, the voltage will be reduced at the output terminals of the secondary coil.
This is accomplished by having leads coming off the primary or secondary coil at various points near the end of the coil to produce several different voltages.
