POLISH HOME ARMY (AK) - HISTORY
Some were organized by army officers, who had avoided being taken prisoner, others were initiated by groups from political parties or by groups of friends.
They further stipulated that ZWZ is "a secret military organization, based on strict principles of hierarchy and discipline." The decrees called upon all similar organizations in the country to subordinate themselves to the ZWZ Commanders appointed by the Supreme Commander.
AK Units fighting against the German army behind the front lines and representatives of the underground civilian government were ordered to reveal themselves to the advancing Soviet Army and present themselves as representative of the Polish Republic and act as hosts in their own country.

OFF THE TELLY: Comedy/Fairly Secret Army
When the first episode of Fairly Secret Army was screened by Channel 4 on Monday 22 October 1984 it was clearly not a run of the mill show.
Much of the filming (and it was filmed, rather than taped) was done on location in the large rambling house used as the HQ of the secret army or either on urban streets or in the country.
Satisfyingly, compared to series one, there was a discernible story arc and it climaxed with the secret army finally preventing the Marxist coup which was indeed, despite the gainsayers of officialdom, just on the very cusp of being successfully carried out.

DVD Times - Secret Army Series 2   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Secret Army is the story of a tight-knit, outnumbered group of patriots up against an implacable enemy bent on the slaughter of civilians.
Still, it is much to the credit of Secret Army that it put the other side as well, even in 1978 when most viewers could remember the war - or perhaps because it was back in 1978 when most viewers could remember it.
But Secret Army makes the Nazi a human, living character, genuinely engaging the audience, which is more like The Night Porter (1974) in its edginess.

Army of Robots defies easy branding; it's a self-professed "electronic-tinged rock band," but that phrase fails to evoke the combination of near-emo pop hooks, crushing guitar riffs, and the layers of digital bleeps, beats that can jump to 140 bpm, and all-around computerized mayhem beneath the standard guitar/keys/bass/drums lineup.
Other than a well-publicized opening gig for Radio Free America (whose album Daggrr produced) last Friday night, the only two shows Army of Robots had ever played prior to their February 5 CD release party were secret; I didn't even know about them despite several nights drinking with Daggrr around the same time.
The album opens with a collage of white noise and atmospheric whooshes, with a keyboard line that dissolves into acoustic guitar strumming over a video-game bass line on "Too Close." Behind it all are stuttering breakbeats, some done in the studio on a drum set by Anderson, some too complex for human hands to create.

Even before they were officially announced, the Army canceled a series of 20 missile launches targeting state lands in the Brooks Range with hazardous liquid-fueled rockets and clusters of 40-pound dummy payloads screaming like bullets at 1,000 feet per second.
The Army was contemplating using tracked vehicles to haul radars, generators, personnel, clean-up gear and rocket debris between Coldfoot and the Chandalar Basin in the Brooks Range wilderness.

Republican IRA, an emerging secret army -- SAOIRSE - Irish Freedom, September 1996
Those in the majority at the November 1986 Army Convention had chosen to ignore the political withdrawal of Ruairí Ó Brádaigh and Dáithí Ó Conaill and the formation of their Republican Sinn Féin but had let it be known that any rival military organisation would be countered forcefully.
What this army possessed was crucial: an assumption by those involved that the moral authority of the Republic had passed to them — they held the vital mandate to deploy physical force.
The sensible can only see one more secret army as one army too many, a provocation to the Protestant paramilitaries, an arrogant rival to democratic institutions, a fanatical and unneeded piece in a game that nearly all on the island had hoped, still hope, will through the peace process lead to an accommodation.

 Canada's Elite Secret Army
The most secret, unpublicized and least known branch of the Canadian military is also its most controversial and, arguably at the root of many of the problems that have beset our Armed Forces in the past decade.
Originally the brainchild of Robert Fowler when he was deputy defence minister (before his UN ambassadorship) and then-chief of defence staff (CDS) General John de Chastelain, JTF2 quickly evolved into something of a secret army outside the military chain of command, reporting directly to the CDS.
The army tried to hush the matter up, and for years ignored the grievances of one of the victims (Frank Savage) until he brought it to the attention of civilian authorities, who laid the charges of which Rainville was eventually found guilty.
