As the year draws to a close, DC Comics is collecting this critically acclaimed mini-series in a trade paperback.
In Superman: Secret Identity, he applies his signature approach—a multigenerational historical canvas, an introspective first-person narration and unabashed love for the superhero genre—to the premier archetype of comics superheroes.
In the 1990s, comics racks were flooded with "superheroes in the real world"—but most of those stories were badly conceived knock-offs and misinterpretations of works by Frank Miller and Alan Moore, equating "realism" with a monotone "grim and gritty" approach.

That may not be a big revelation to some, but as writer Kurt Busiek explained of the DC Comics mini-series "Superman: Secret Identity", it is a different kind of twist in the series.
In "Secret Identity," Immonen's art (as seen from the pages included in this interview) has what some have called a classic painted look and while the artist thanks fans for their strong response, he is confused on one point.
While "Secret Identity" is garnering its own heavy praise, Immonen says he's going to leave Superman on a high note and move onto some new projects.
