 FAO - Small Island Developing States (SIDS)
The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) provides technical advice, assistance and training, and applied research to its Island member countries and territories throughout the Pacific region.
The Caribbean Community has three objectives: (a) economic cooperation through the Caribbean Common Market; (b) coordination of foreign policy among the independent Member States: and (c) common services and cooperation in functional matters such as health, education and culture, communications and industrial relations.
This site has been developed through cooperation between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Regional Animal Health Service of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community.

The Caribbean Community Secretariat reported that the decline in intraregional trade was approximately 33 percent in 1986, following declines of 3.3 percent in 1985, 10.9 percent in 1984, and 12.2 percent in 1983.
However, in 1987 a group of Caribbean experts expressed cautious optimism because the institutional framework of the community remained intact, intraregional dialogue was maintained, and trade and functional cooperation continued to show resilience.
Caribbean expressions of solidarity on issues of regional security and territorial integrity focused international attention on the region and strengthened Caricom's bargaining position in negotiations with regional and extraregional nations and in international forums.

 CARICOM Statistics
The Statistics Sub-programme compiles statistics on the member countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
These data are submitted to the Secretariat by the member states themselves, either by the National Statistics Office or the Central Bank, depending on the nature of the data.
The Regional Statistical Programme and the Resolution calling for increased investment in Statistics were accepted by the 15th Meeting of Community Council of Ministers.

 NEW PERMANENT OBSERVER OF CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY PRESENTS APPOINTMENT LETTER
The new Permanent Observer of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Miles Stoby, presented his letter of appointment to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Wednesday, 5 October.
Stoby served as Senior Adviser on UN Reform to Julian Hunte, President of the fifty-eighth session of the  General Assembly.  Before that, he had been a senior official in the United Nations Secretariat and a senior diplomat in the foreign service of his native Guyana.

This means, for example, that Barbados could bring a claim against Trinidad and Tobago before the Court, or Guyana could bring a claim against the CARICOM Secretariat.
This is a very useful feature since it allows national judges access to the presumably greater expertise of the judges of the Caribbean Court of Justice when dealing with the intricacies of international law and international trade law.
The OECS Contracting States unite in part because they can thereby "increase their bargaining power as regards third countries or groupings of countries." The ability of sub-groupings of states to unite and protect their interests in larger organisations is one of the key checks and balances in the operation of Caribbean regional organisations.

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (0ECS) came into being on June 18th 1981, when seven Eastern Caribbean countries signed a treaty agreeing to cooperate with each other and promote unity and solidarity among the Members.

Ambassador Ramdin informed that in the case of Haiti, the election of a National Assembly is important in terms of Haiti becoming a full member of the Caribbean Community as it is the National Assembly that is responsible for the ratification of the necessary instruments for Haiti's full membership of the Community.
The Assistant Secretary-General stressed too that in playing such a critical role in the electoral process in Haiti and Suriname, the CARICOM Secretariat is also building capabilities and expertise as members of the Secretariat's professional staff are in charge of organisational, logistical and technical preparations for these electoral observer missions.
Haiti has had provisional membership of the Community since July 1997 while Suriname became a CARICOM Member State in July 1995.

A joint statement issued 13th January by the Secretaries-General of the Commonwealth, Caribbean Community, Indian Ocean Commission, and Pacific Islands Forum expressed sympathy for those affected by the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami on December 26th 2004.
The joint statement was signed by Mr Don McKinnon, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth; Mr Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Mme Monique Andreas-Esoavelomandroso, Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission and Mr Greg Urwin, Secretary-General of the Pacific Islands Forum.
Forum Acting Secretary General, Mr Iosefa Maiava, welcomed the contribution and said it would be used for specific activities in the Secretariat’s Work Program in line with the priorities of the Leaders of the Forum.

Tim was a true Caribbean man whose commitment and passion for the Region, its people and for those things which mattered most in their lives such as cricket and politics, made him a great force in his nation=s life and in the arena of Caribbean life as well.
Above all his passions, Tim was about Caribbean Unity and he expressed and supported all which sought to achieve that end.

 CARICOM Secretary-General Congratulates Trinidad and Tobago’s National Football Team
(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) CARICOM Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin Carrington today joined the rest of the Caribbean Community in extending warm congratulations to the Captain and players of the Trinidad and Tobago National Football team on the occasion of their success in qualifying for the World Cup Finals to be held in Germany next summer.
