United States Secretary of Homeland Security - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United States Secretary of Homeland Security is the head of the United States Department of Homeland Security, the body concerned with protecting the American homeland and the safety of American citizens.
Traditionally, the order of the presidential line of succession is determined (after the Vice President, Speaker of the House, and President pro tempore of the Senate) by the order of the creation of the cabinet positions, and is mandated as such under 3 USC 19.
In the 108th Congress, the Senate passed a bill, S.148, that would insert the Secretary of Homeland Security right after the Attorney General, in light of the Secretary's security and managerial responsibilities that would make the Secretary more ready to assume the Presidency than, say, the Secretary of Agriculture or Education.

20th Anniversary Briefing of the Secretary's Overseas Security Advisory Council
Secretary Shultz thought that our nation needed a dynamic forum for sharing ideas and information on security among our public and private sectors, so he created the Overseas Security Advisory Council, or, as we know it, OSAC, which was initially composed of only 15 American companies and the Departments of State and Commerce.
In the past four years, our global partnership for security has taken the shape of fighting a global war on terrorism, and all around the world OSAC is doing its part.
These and other OSAC successes are essential to our security, but ultimately our actions on the field of battle are not sufficient by themselves to defeat the ideology of hatred that feeds terrorism.

In a surprise move, President Bush yesterday tapped a deputy Treasury secretary and former chemical-engineering professor with limited energy-policy expertise to be his new energy secretary.
Social Security privatization exemplifies Bush's policy management style, which is (1) scare people into thinking there's a danger that doesn't actually exist, and then (2) create some gawdawful expensive mess of a "solution" that will wreak havoc for generations to come.
For Social Security is a government program that works, a demonstration that a modest amount of taxing and spending can make people's lives better and more secure.
