Secure voice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Secure voice (alternatively secure speech or ciphony) is a term in cryptography for devices which are designed to provide voice encryption for voice communication over a range of communication types such as radio, telephone or IP.
A digital secure voice usually includes two components, a digitizer to convert between speech and digital signals and an encryption system to provide confidentiality.
This leads to the use of vocoders to achieve tight bandwidth compression of the speech signals.

Secure transmissions; whether telephone conversations, facsimile (fax) copies, or automated information systems (AIS) communications have long been possible through encryption, but for many years the equipment was bulky, complex, and expensive.
To go from a clear to a secure voice transmission, either caller simply presses his or her SECURE VOICE button after the CIK is used to activate the secure mode.
The real advantage is that in that in a secure environment, there's substantial improvement in voice quality, and the time to go secure is almost invisible to the customer and goes automatically secure in that brief instance, and you have to do something to make it unsecure.

Fortinet Collaborates with Polycom to Enable Secure Multi-site Voice and Video-over IP (V²oIP)
Fortinet will be demonstrating this technology, and discussing the intersection of broadcast over IP networks' security needs at this year's Interop 2005 conference, in Las Vegas, in Fortinet's booth #2449.
However, VoIP and V²oIP networks are often unprotected because security technology has lacked the intelligence to recognize and properly process the signaling protocols that enable IP-based calls to be established and managed.
Another advantage of the FortiGate systems for video conferencing is that the security they provide is transparent to end users in that they do not have to make any changes to their video systems to take advantage of Fortinet's new H.323 firewall NAT traversal feature set.
