Screw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Screws with left-hand threads are used in exceptional cases, when the screw is subject to anticlockwise forces that might undo a right-hand thread.
Screws and bolts are made in a wide range of materials, with steel being perhaps the most common, in many varieties.
The diameter of a metric screw is the outer diameter of the thread.

Bryce Fastener is a manufacturer of high security tamper proof screws, specializing in proprietary and uncommon security screw drives or keyways.
Though traditional tamperproof screws were once fairly secure, the accessibility of imported driver bits led to losses.
Most "Security" or "Tamper Proof" screws available in the marketplace are no longer tamperproof because security bits have become too accessible and are flooding the market (see tamperproof myth).

The Natural Handyman's Security Screw Removal Page
Security screws, also known as one-way screws, are very simple in design.
Security screws are used in applications where either theft or vandalism is common and expected, such as wall-mounted safes and public bathroom fixtures and enclosures...
Since you can't see the shank of the screw, a conservative estimate would be to drill a hole approximately 1/4 the width of the screw head.

 DIY Security Bits
Rather than having a bit pattern cut into the centre of the screw head, this was basically a round head with three notches removed from the edges to form an equilateral triangle.
Some research online revealed that the screw was a Tri-groove design (for an excellent reference on standard security screw types, see: http://www.lara.com/reviews/screwtypes.htm).
Since the Tri-groove screw head is basically just three notches, I would have to remove metal from the head of the hex key until only three “posts” remained, to match the notches of the head.

With the onslaught of imported tamper-resistant bits, the security of these "tamper proof screws" is declining rapidly.
They are tamper-resistant screws, not tamper-proof screws (see tamper proof myth).

No weapons were involved here, but every day another screw up erodes the confidence of the people afraid of flying, not to mention the incredible inconvinience of being taken off an airplane, and to have to go back through security again.
