Security document having a security thread embedded therein - Patent 5324079
A security element that can be embedded in the form of a thread or strip in a security document, in particular a paper of value, is composed of two carrier sheets, each of which bears each of the marking substances allowing for detection of authenticity.
The present invention relates to a security element in the form of a thread or strip to be embedded in a security document comprising a carrier sheet and at least one marking substance applied thereto, e.g.
The security threads may also be embedded in the document by methods known as such so as to appear in certain places on the surface.

Method for making sheet materials and security paper - Patent 5405500
The security strip or thread in such documents is exposed in a controlled manner on one side of the paper from which the document is formed.
An elongate security thread is fed into contact with the cylinder which has raised portions thereon so that the thread overlies the raised portions as fibres begin to deposit on the cylinder.
The continuous flexible security element in the form of a strip or thread 20 to be fed into the paper, is generally of uniform construction and thickness.

Thread (Java 2 Platform SE 5.0)
Threads with higher priority are executed in preference to threads with lower priority.
The target thread should check this variable regularly, and return from its run method in an orderly fashion if the variable indicates that it is to stop running.
An additional danger of this method is that it may be used to generate exceptions that the target thread is unprepared to handle (including checked exceptions that the thread could not possibly throw, were it not for this method).

 Java Security Architecture: -
In a "lazy evaluation" implementation, whenever permission checking is requested, the thread state (as reflected by the current state, including the current thread's call stack or its equivalent) is examined and a decision is reached to either deny or grant the particular access requested.
Thus, when a new thread is created, we actually ensure (via thread creation and other code) that it automatically inherits the parent thread's security context at the time of creation of the child thread, in such a way that subsequent
In other words, the logical thread context is expanded to include both the parent context (in the form of an AccessControlContext, described in the next section) and the current context, and the algorithm for checking permissions is expanded to the following.

Other pre-existing security features, such as the security thread and microprinting, are included in the new notes and have changed only slightly.
A security thread is a thin thread or ribbon running through a bank note substrate.
Using a unique thread position for each denomination guards against certain counterfeit techniques, such as bleaching ink off a lower denomination and using the paper to "reprint" the bill as a higher value note.

Security printing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Security printing is the field of the printing industry that deals with the printing of items such as banknotes, passports, stock certificates, postage stamps and identity cards.
One is a thin aluminum coated and partly demetalized Polyester film thread with Micro printing which is embedded in the security paper as banknote or passport paper.
The other kind of security thread is the single or multicolor sewing thread made from cotton or synthetic fibers, mostly UV fluorescent, for the bookbinding of passport booklets.

Security thread - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A security thread is a security feature of many bank notes to protect against counterfeiting, consisting of a thin ribbon which is threaded through the note's paper.
Usually, the ribbon runs vertically, and is "woven" into the paper, so that it at some places emerges on the front side and at the remaining places at the rear side of the paper.
If you let light shine through the bill, you can check whether it is really woven and not printed on it by making sure that you see one continuous line.

Note that the thread created by the unmanaged API CreateThread isn't covered, but that's to be expected because it's the runtime, not the operating system, that's doing this work.
This means that calls to inproc COM components that generate thread switches due to threading model mismatches will still drop the impersonation token just like before, but for a large class of applications, the cross-thread identity flow problem has been solved.

However, having only passengers go through the security line is nice, again more for the fact that the usually cramped gate areas and bars/restaurants would be worse with people lingering around there who have no business being there.

It represents an 81 percent increase over the 86,906 unique phishing messages that were detected in the last half of 2005, and an increase of 61 percent over the 97,597 messages detected in the first half of 2005.

Bug ID: 4254486 interrupting dead applet thread throws security exception
This may be related to a jdk 1.1 Bug Id: 4031323 [chamness] =================================================== In JDK 1.2, an applet was permitted to interrupt a thread that was no longer alive, but in JDK 1.2.1 and now in JDK 1.2.2, this raises a security exception.
The test is implemented in the button action: a 'waiter' thread first waits for a 'sleeper' thread to finish and then interrupts the sleeper thread.
Therefore there may be a bug in the handling of thread groups, and perhaps the bug is really in AppletSecurity, not in java/lang.

A Tale of Three Security Contexts in ASP.NET
Security context is a property of your environment that determines on whose behalf your code is running.
In order to understand the security context within which your code runs, it's useful to study the pipeline through which a request flows, from the time it is received by the Web server until it reaches the code in your ASP.NET page.
While the thread (and occasionally the process) token is used to control access to external resources such as files and databases, which really do require valid Windows credentials, the managed security context is designed for your own use within your application.

In addition, security advisories discussed on the list are embargoed so vendors have time to prepare fixes before full public disclosure.

broadband help » Forums » Up and Running » Security » "HyperThreading considered harmful"
The gist is that the two processor cores share a cache, and though one thread can't access the other thread's data, it can evict the other thread's data from the cache, causing timing differences that can be measured.
Unless I'm reading it wrong, it requires that the high-security thread and the low security thread be running at the same time, and this looks like a really hard thing to coordinate.
I think it's going to be impossible for a Java application to do this, because aside from the fact that it doesn't have access to the CPU instructions required to do this kind of hyper-highresolution timing, Java has so much overhead that it's going to confound any efforts at measuring these timing differences.

15 Seconds : Designing Role-Based Security Models for .NET
Role-based security is built on the premise that users are authenticated, which is the process of identifying the user.
To understand how this security principal is used by the runtime it is important to consider the relationship between the running process, the application domain, and the assemblies loaded within that application domain.
This also means that the security principal assigned to the thread may not match that of the process identity that governs access to system resources.
