Sedgwick County, Kansas (the "County") is hereby exempted from the provisions of K.S.A. 65-201, 65-205, 65-206, 65-207, 65-208, and 65-209, inclusive, and shall be governed by the following substitute and additional provisions contained in this charter resolution.
The Sedgwick County Manager shall appoint a person licensed to practice medicine and surgery, preference being given to persons who have training in public health, who shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Sedgwick County Board of Health and as the local health officer.
The City of Wichita, Kansas is hereby exempted from the provisions of K.S.A. 65-207, 65-208, and 65-209, inclusive, and shall be governed by the following substitute and additional provisions contained in this charter ordinance.

McANANY, J.: Sedgwick County (County) appeals the decision of the Workers Compensation Appeals Board (Board) affirming the administrative law judge's conclusion that the County is not entitled to an offset for social security retirement benefits pursuant to K.S.A. 44-501(h).
The County appeals, arguing that Dickens is distinguishable and that it is entitled to an offset for the social security retirement benefits McIntosh receives.
His income from the County at the time of his injury was not post-retirement income used to supplement his retirement income.

 KANSAS-Sedgwick County Safe Communities: Improving Child Restraint Use
Observational surveys conducted in 1998 in Sedgwick County, Kansas, indicated that the child safety seat use rate for motorists transporting children was unacceptably low.
County child safety seat use rates paralleled the use rates statewide, revealing that only 80 percent of children under the age of four and 59 percent of children over the age of four were properly restrained in safety seats or seat belts.
The goal of the Sedgwick County Safe Communities project, initiated in 1997, is to increase proper child safety seat use countywide.

Health authorities are stepping up efforts to fight TB in Sedgwick County (Wichita), Kan., which accounted for almost a third of the state's reported cases last year.
Twenty-nine of the 89 TB cases reported in Kansas last year were in Sedgwick County, and so far this year the county has seen 14 cases, said Peggy Baker, supervisor for the county health department's TB control clinic.

Up to 40 cars were derailed, and flames as high as 200 feet were reportedly seen against the dark backdrop of a clear, but fl, August sky.
Two Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputies were treated and released from a local hospital after breathing one or more of the chemicals after arriving at the scene.
