eye - Attack of the see monster - 11.20.03
It's the story of Mun (Lee Sin-je), a young Hong Kong woman who becomes immersed in all manner of freakiness after her sight is restored.
Stylistic echoes of a certain blockbuster in which a boy sees dead people are unmistakable, as are elements drawn from Ghost and the dimly remembered Madeleine Stowe movie, Blink.
While all this might have seemed fresh to Tom Cruise (whose production company is prepping the remake), The Eye's story is too predictable and -- after Mun travels to northern Thailand to investigate the life of the woman who originally owned her new corneas -- too convoluted for the movie to succeed as a mystery.
