The ship returned to Seeadler Harbor on 17 December 1944 and was assigned to Task Group (TG) 77.4, the San Fabian Carrier Group, which sortied on 1 January 1945.
She sailed for the Ryukyus on 27 March and arrived in the operating area south of Okinawa on the morning of 1 April.

 The Admiralties:Invasion Planning
From a military standpoint, Seeadler Harbor, the settlement of Lorengau with its auxiliary landing field, and the central part of Los Negros, site of the large Momote airfield, were the most important areas on the islands.
Alamo Force's definite mission was to seize the Seeadler Harbor area, with the aim of establishing an airdrome and light naval facilities for the support of subsequent operations along the north coast of New Guinea.
Within the harbor, boats would have to head for the south and southwest part of the bay, since the north and northwest shores were swampy.

She reached Pearl Harbor on 21 April, exchanged her cargo for damaged planes, and returned to Alameda, Calif. She conducted pilot qualifications off San Diego during May and early June and completed a second ferry mission to Pearl Harbor by 5 July.
In August, she joined the expeditionary force forming in the Solomon Islands for the invasion of the Palaus and, as flagship of the escort carrier task force, provided air cover for the amphibious landings at Peleliu and Anguar.
She then steamed for Seeadler Harbor, Manus, where she became flagship of a task force which sailed on 14 October to begin the liberation of the Philippine Islands with landings at Leyte.

She sailed from Pearl Harbor on December 9 for the Southwest Pacific reaching Milne Bay at the east tip of the Papuan Peninsula of New Guinea on December 18.
She operated out of Seeadler Harbor against Sawar and Wakde, and assigned patrol duty between Aitape and west to Tanamerah.
The Dally steamed to Seeadler Harbor on September 29, and on October 11 she was underway for the invasion of Leyte.

She arrived at Pearl Harbor on 10 April and conducted torpedo and antisubmarine exercises until 29 April when she received orders sending her to Majuro as an escort for Preble (DM-20).
The force arrived at Seeadler Harbor Manus, on 10 September and, four days later, sortied for a rendezvous off the Palau Islands in the Western Carolines.

Colonel Ezaki, suspecting the landing in Hyane Harbor to be a feint and that the American main force would be landing in Seeadler Harbor, started committing his troops piecemeal against the U.S. troops at dawn on 1 March.
Upon entering the harbor entrance the formation had fired upon the machine gun nests on Hauwei Island and then at 1056 the seven landing craft left the formation and proceeded to their assigned landing area.
On 16 March at 0850 LST convoy H-4 and the Swanson arrived at Seeadler Harbor entrance and the LST’s were proceeding into the Harbor.

 The Admiralties:Gaining Control of Seeadler Harbor
The first step toward these objectives was to gain control of the eastern side of Seeadler Harbor, formed by the Mokerang Peninsula as it curves west to make an acute angle with the north coast of Los Negros (Map No. 7, page 60).
Next, the eastern harbor must be made safe, both for landings and for offensive movement, by neutralizing the areas where enemy garrisons and coastal guns could harass operations in the harbor.
Operating from a firm base on eastern Seeadler Harbor, the 2d Brigade would face little of the grave risk that accompanied the landing of the 1st Brigade in Hyane Harbor.
