The Sega Mega (Japanese: メガCD) is an add-on device for the Sega Mega Drive released in Europe, Australia, and Japan.
Sega wanted to showcase the power of the Sega CD, and so focused on the "FMV" games rather than importing "extended" games that only expanded ordinary games by taking advantage of the extra storage space of the CD media.
Sega insisted on licensing and producing primarily "full motion video" games similar to earlier laserdisc games, that were universally panned by game reviewers.

Sega soon announced their initial US release date of 9th January 1989 and emphasized that the Genesis was the first true 16-bit system (PC Engine (or Turbo GrafX 16 as it was called in the US) wasn't).

Sega CD was pretty much identical to its overseas counterpart, save for some minor cosmetic changes to the case and a slight revamping of the CD control menus.
Mega CD sold rather slowly, and this was not helped by the fact that some countries did not get the system until the second incarnation of the console.

Now I can get the Mega Drive working fine, I'm experienced with that but since I have no instructions I can't find anything on the Mega CD to turn it on.
Sega was going to produce a 3-in-1 model, but instead they made the better Sega Saturn (essentially the same quality as a 32XCD machine would have been)
In addition to Nemesisagat's notes, they did however release the Sega CD-X, which was a Genesis(MegaDrive) and CD system in one, and wasn't much bigger than CD walkmen of the time.
