Segregationist (Asimov) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Segregationist is a science fiction short story by Isaac Asimov.
As the man is leaving, the doctor remarks to a robotic aide that he would rather that humans and robots stick to being humans and robots instead of replacing their body parts with those that would make them similar to each other.
The robot aide remarks that such talk was "segregationist," to which the doctor replies that he "doesn't care." At the end, the doctor is revealed to be a robot.

schelling   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The absence of a global notion of segregationist structures (like the notion of ghettos) in the agent's attributes (preferences) is a very important feature of this model.
Agents have only weak segregationist local behaviour, in the following sense: each agent agrees to stay in a neighbourhood with people that are mainly of another colour, on condition that there are at least 37,5% with the same colour in the neighbourhood.
Schelling denotes by a fully integrated structure of the population a structural pattern where there is alternately one agent of each colour in all directions; in other words, each agent (except at the edges) has four neighbours of one colour and four of the other.

Segregationist fence seizes 85% of Palestinian village lands   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The route indicated that most of the village cultivated lands and property would be behind that racist fence, Mayadma explained, warning that colossal economic losses would befall the village and its inhabitants.
He further noted that villagers’ livestock would not find enough land for grazing, which would entail a national disaster since Aqraba was one the most important sources of animal wealth in Palestine in general and in the West Bank in particular.
Mayadma said that Zionist forces have been long planning to seize his village’s lands, adding that Zionist settlers in particular were dreaming of laying their hands over the village’s fertile lands and pure water and the segregationist fence came to allow them the opportunity to do that.

Two Zionist guards were killed last month at the hands of Palestinian resistance fighters while guarding a segregationist fence’s construction site near the village of Sawahra Al-Sharkia to the south of occupied Jerusalem.

 A Lott of Questions
Senate majority leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) said Mississippians were "proud of" voting for the segregationist Thurmond when he ran as a States Rights presidential candidate in 1948, largely against the civil rights record of incumbent Harry Truman.
The Republicans, trying for damage control, had little choice but to say they didn't think Lott was a segregationist--any more--but still had to denounce the statements by the man they elected to lead them in the senate.
He told the media that although he grew up in a segregationist environment, "segregation and racism are immoral." It's what his 50 fellow Republican senators and the nation wanted to hear.

International Update: Anti-missiles, Material Breaches and Segregationist Feelings
Now, “segregationist feelings” is one of those classic phrases that simply boggles the mind, like when an aide of Jim Bakker said that the TV preacher had once given him a “homosexual look.”
And since much of that agenda is self-defeating, it’s ridiculous not to be able to have a clear discussion of racial issues without having the words “racist”; and “segregationist” and “apartheid”; thrown around all the time.
Unless Ballenger really thinks that all people who annoy him should be required to ride in the back of the bus, use separate restrooms, be deprived of the vote, and be subject to lynching – regardless of color.

In fact, I was referring to his two bids for office on a segregationist platform and his years of work on behalf of a segregationist governor.
Never mind that "his two bids for office on a segregationist platform and his years of work on behalf of a segregationist governor" are no less true now now than they were in 1992.
The fact that none of the aforementioned segregationists were Republicans when they were segregationists can not possibly be spun as a good thing for the Democrats vis a vis the Republicans.

Beinart's first point is that while Clinton praised ex-Arkansas senator J. William Fulbright, "he never praised his segregationism." I believe James Taranto (a conservative) of Opinionjournal.com was the first to make this argument, or one similar to it.

USATODAY.com - Alabama segregation vote stirs memories of Wallace   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Onetime segregationist governor George Wallace once explained to me the distinction many Southerners make between a racist and a segregationist — a mind-set that may help explain why Alabama voters recently failed to remove some Jim Crow language from the state's constitution.
For too many Alabama voters, rejecting a constitutional amendment that would remove segregationist language from their state's constitution probably falls far short of racist behavior.
And when confronted with a choice between cleansing segregationist language from their state's constitution and risking a tax increase, and doing nothing about that ugly blot and fending off a feared tax hike, Alabama voters opted for the latter.

What Wallace said was that he was "not a racist, only a segregationist" and that he did not hate fl people.
To not publish this fact is to propitiate the lie and hide the truth of the real Wallace: that he was a segregationist from the cradle to the grave.
The myth that Wallace was not a segregationist because he was not a racist is like Adolf Hitler saying, "I'm not anti-Semitic; I just don't like Jews." To Wallace supporters I must say I'm sorry, but in terms of man's inhumanity to man, being a segregationist is synonymous with being a racist.

The civil rights movement was gathering steam, but he held fast to his segregationist views for years.
Ironically, in earlier decades, Thurmond's segregationist views were more nuanced than those held by other Southern politicians.
Like many one-time segregationists, Thurmond insisted the issue wasn't race but "federal power vs. state power" — though the state power he wanted to preserve was the power to segregate.

 Reason Magazine - Dixiecrats Triumphant
The extended scandal involving Sen. Trent Lott's dismal remarks in honor of Thurmond's 100th birthday, especially Lott's stated regret that Thurmond's segregationist Dixiecrats failed to win the 1948 presidential campaign, have led a number of writers to examine the Dixiecrats' old platform so as to put Lott's statement in perspective.
Breakaway segregationist Democrats didn't need to pluck the racist dystopia implicit in their 1948 platform from thin air, nor did they have to base their political hopes on hazy Lost Cause nostalgia and distant antebellum dreams.
Thurmond and his fellow Dixiecrats didn't necessarily require a model of triumphalist racism, but the point is that in Wilson they had one.
