Topic: Sehnsucht (song)

SONG - LoveToKnow Article on SONG
The early history of song on its musical side may be regarded as the history of the evolution of melody: and since what is known of melody before the end of the 16th century, apart from the folk-song, is extremely slight, it is in the folk-song itself that this evolution is primarily to be studied.
Song passed with the close of the age of chivalry from the noble to the burgher class.
Good songs, apart from the initial difficulty of finding a publisher, are thus penalized from the start, whilst the larger and less instructed portion of the public, which forms its taste upon what the singers of the day provide, remains ignorant of precisely those works which are most necessary for its enlightenment.

 UCM 21 - BOESES
The album features songs about the several thoughts of a mass killer, thoughts about hunting the victims, what goes round in their mind after they have killed them and so on...
This one is the 1st song that shows another side onto that topic, just because that the victim is laughing at first about his murderer without knowing what is caused by this.
Not all songs are about murderers and something, but therefore it seems as after the rage in the first part the killer inside starts to think about the things he did...

 FLAME THROWER!!!
Asche was a song ahead of its time for Rammstein, while most of the songs featured in Herezelied were rather slow and gothic; Asche sets the tone for the future of the band.
Herezelied and Sehnsucht had greats such as Asche zu Asche, Engel, Seemann, and Buck Dich, the band tried to emulate their rock formula one last time with their new song Adios, but after listening to it one can’t help but think, that was great, but I was expecting something more from them.
Nebel is not a bad song but you can tell they only put it in there to satisfy those fans who listened only for their slow songs.

Formed in 1993 by former East Germans, the band was named after the location of a 1988 air show tragedy that resulted in the immediate death of forty (that number later rose to sixty-nine) onlookers and the injury of hundreds of others.
Sehnsucht (which translates as “longing”) was the band’s second album and brought introduced their dark prog-metal sound to the United States.
The song is both heavy metal and operatic at the same time.

In Music We Trust - Rammstein: Sehnsucht
In fact, the last 2 songs on the CD are English versions ("Engel" and "Du Hast"), but I still prefer the German versions because of the power of the language; and sometimes the intended meaning of a song can be lost in translations.
The song "Du Hast" ("You Hate") is now a video on MTV and is getting more radio airplay, but I still feel as if Rammstein were a hidden treasure unearthed by the "Lost Highway" soundtrack (the perfect vehicle for a band such as Rammstein).
Sehnsucht ("Hunger" - I've also heard it to mean "Longing") takes you to the depths of darkness, with powerful vocals and industrial-strength rhythms and a heavy dose of techno.

The lyrics are also considerably tamer, although there’s songs about rape, sodomy, incest, sado-masochism and murder, so “tame” is not exactly the right word to describe it.
Sehnsucht (Longing) is the title track, and it’s a very good piece of fast techno-driven heavy metal.
It’s a rather twisted love song, addressed to one “Brüderlein”, which is both an endearing term for “brother” and a slang word for “homosexual”.

My Way: Rammstein Rosenrot (Rose Red)
One of the weaker tracks.Nice guitar riff's which rise and fall with the tempo of the song. This songs shows Rammstein's roots. There's a distinct rise and fall in the song's structure which is weived well by the lyrics.Nice song structure but it's a case of "been there done that".
This song is based on a german story "Der Struwwelpeter" about a girl who lights a match and develop's a love for fire.A slow track which is laced with the words "Hilf Mir" which are cries for help in german.
That song introduced me to Rammstein.I too don't think it's anything special and feel it's a bit over-rated.Here in India "Du Hast" is what you associate Rammstein with. Most of my readers(read friends) are Indians so Du Hast is one track with which they easily identify.

It seems like an odd song to be included on a pop album, but it grew on me. I particularly like certain phrases in the melody, and the choral part of the chorus.
Plus, it's another gentle song, which is a nice break from all the upbeat numbers.

Du hast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Du hast" is a song by the German Tanz-Metall band Rammstein from the album Sehnsucht as track #5.
The song is one of the band's best known in the United States, owing to its inclusion on the Soundtrack of The Matrix and heavy airplay on MTV.
The pun is illustrated by a comparison of the German version, a literal English translation, and the band's non-literal English version of the song.

The song is about boxing, and you can really feel the energy through the chorus, which features Lindemann singing in an almost ghostly voice behind chants and numbers slowly going up to 10.
Surrounded by hard rock riffs, the song deals with a boy who gets trapped in the snow, and is saved...or at least that's what my expert German translator tells me. The song delves in darkness, but is surprisingly uplifting at the end.
The song reverts back to the band's juvenile humor, and while presented as a serious hard rock song (not to mention Till doesn't sound like the kind of guy who likes to joke around), the song, if for nothing else is great because of it's melodic verses and excellent riffage.

Most songs aren’t very memorable, though the CD is loaded with energy on most tracks, and is thrash-influenced.
Opener Sehnsucht is probably one of the best Rammstein songs ever, followed by the other single “Engel”, which is also surprisingly good, with great choruses.
The techno-ish Tier and sadistic and low-energy Bestrafe Mich is good for a slower (but loud) song, After Du Hast, the album does loose a bit of energy, with Klavier, Alter Mann, and Spiel Mit Mir being the remaining standouts.

Sehnsucht: This song is a very cool song, the keyboards really do a good job on this song.
The guitars are, like most songs, very simple but still manage to be extremely listenable, the bass is techno-ish and fits the song well.
The keyboards are what really make this song great, sounds like it would be the theme to someone sneaking around or something and then it has that distorted piano thing.

Goethe, Johann Wolfgang von. The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001-05
Goethe’s lyric poems for Friederike Brion, daughter of the pastor of nearby Sesenheim, were written at this time as new texts for folk-song melodies.
Goethe’s exquisite lyrical poems, often inspired by existing songs, challenged contemporary composers to give their best in music, and such songs as “Nur wer die Sehnsucht kennt” [only the lonely heart], “Kennst du das Land” [know’st thou the land], and Erlkönig were among the song texts most often set to music.
Goethe’s aim was to make his life a concrete example of the full range of human potential, and he succeeded as few others did.

Since du hasst and du hast sound the same, and even though the lyrics say du hast, up until Till says "du hast mich gefragt" (you have asked me) it could be either one.

If your a heavy Rammstein fan, this song reminds me alot of "Herzeleid" and "Rein Raus" combined, it is very heavy, filled with a driven sound throughout the whole song, and like the old school Rammstein style, it does not let up.
But this song has a killer guitar riff, and pounding drums, great song, you need to listen to it a few times, though.

I don't know what the hell these guys are writing about most of the time, but it sure sounds good, so fuck it.
Take, for example, the song "Tier." It's lyrics are pretty simple, "Was tust du/was fuhlst du/was bist du/doch nur ein/tier." Something about "What (?) you (three times same scheme)/(?) only one/animal" whatever.
These two songs don't keep pace with the rest of the songs on the album anyway...they could have never put those in and I would have lived my life perfectly fine.
