Phase correcting seismic traces - Patent 4348749
The output of the seismic data is then applied to the D filter which introduces the desired shot pulse to produce a signal which approximates the signal which would have been produced by a desired shot pulse interacting with the reflectivity of the earth in the absence of any distortion.
In carrying out seismic prospecting, seismic traces or data are gathered in the field and thereafter processed to improve the quality of the data and to present the data in suitable form for use by geophysicists for determining the properties and structures of subterranean earth formations.
In accordance with this invention a signal representing the minimum phase inverse of the signal pulse of the seismic energy applied to the earth in obtaining the seismic data is generated and is convolved with the signal pulse to obtain a signal representing a function g(t).

Attributes Revisited by M. Turhan Taner - Rock Solid Images
Seismic Attributes are all the information obtained from seismic data, either by direct measurements or by logical or experience based reasoning.
Since the seismic data does not contain any viable information at very low frequencies (due to band pass filtering in the field and during processing) these long wavelength trends cannot be utilized.
The main hypothesis is ``Simple seismic wavelets are such that their amplitudes rise to a maximum at a rate proportional to their general spectral content and their phase increases continuously without any local reversal''.

The amplitude of a seismic wave is the amount the ground moves as the wave passes by.
Seismic waves are the vibrations from earthquakes that travel through the Earth; they are recorded on instruments called seismographs.
tsunamis are seismic sea waves caused by earthquakes, submarine landslides, and, infrequently, by eruptions of island volcanoes.

 Merge Records
J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Patrick "Murph" Murphy formed their now legendary band in 1984, in the sleepy college town of Amherst, MA, and went on to change the face of rock forever … whether they actually ever intended to or not.
laid the groundwork for a seismic shift in the underground rock scene.
These first three albums, with their sonic wall of melodic bass, furious drums and stunning guitar wizardry, coupled with an almost laissez faire vocal delivery, became the sonic blueprint for what would become known as “alternative rock” over the next decade.

PERU - SOURCE MECHANISM OF THE EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI OF OCTOBER 17, 1966 IN PERU - by Dr. George Pararas-Carayannis
Lomnitz and Cabre' (1968), probably because of the sparcity of seismic data, were unable to determine a focal plane solution for this earthquake, and could not confirm this parallelism of the fault to the coast.
The source mechanism of the tsunami generation associated with the earthquake of 17 October 1966 was indirectly inferred by studying the seismic and oceanic phenomena associated with this event.
Seismic and water motion data indicated that the uplifted portion of the crustal block was on the continental side of the rift.

Surface wave tomography in Southern California using seismic ambient noise
Seismic noise data from 148 broadband seismic stations in Southern California were used to extract the surface wave arrival-times between all station pairs in the network in the frequency band 0.05-0.4 Hz.
In this frequency band, ambient noise (originating from ocean microseisms) propagating over long distances is typically dominated by surface waves.
The seismic data were then used in a simple, but densely sampled tomographic procedure to estimate the surface wave velocity structure for a region in Southern California.

Many occurred within or close to the strong seismic reflectors above the plate interface where local earthquakes are absent, suggesting that the seismogenic process for tremors is fluid-related.
The observed depth range implies that tremors could be associated with the variation of stress field induced by a transient slip along the deeper portion of the Cascadia interface or, alternatively, that episodic slip is more diffuse than originally suggested.
