The Seismogenic Zone Experiment (SEIZE): Science Plan   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
SEIZE will proceed by focused investigations combining earthquake seismology, seismic reflection imaging, and geodetic studies in and around a limited number of seismogenic zones.
SEIZE intends to investigate active systems as a whole, viewing a seismogenic zone not so much as a "geological" entity, but more as a complex physical, chemical and biological system, subject to a variety of influences.
SEIZE must therefore include a comprehensive program of laboratory experiments documenting relevant physical-chemical processes and elastic and material properties, at in situ temperature, stress, and fluid pressure.

 SEIZE Workshop Report
Thus, a good target of investigation for SEIZE would be rupture zones of tsunamigenic earthquakes such as the 1992 Nicaragua event or the 1896 Sanriku event.
Perhaps most interesting for SEIZE would be the south-east end of the 1906 rupture, a possibly structural barrier that stopped both the 1906 and 1942 earthquakes.
Placing a SEIZE experiment on the very large and well-documented main asperity could be interesting, but perhaps that zone, because of the size of the asperity, is rather unusual in the world (Kamchatka 1952 might be similar).

 Seize The Day, Then Die
I thought I had some strange teachers in my time, but none as strange as this Manchester teacher who told her students that a meteor was going to hit the earth in a week and they were all going to die.
The logic seems to be 'make them think they're going to die so they appreciate what they have.' Kind of like that guy who tried to save his marriage by electrifying his wife in the bathtub.
On a completely unrelated note, the widespread use of the phrase seize the day (from the latin carpe diem) is a pet peeve of mine, since I think it's mistranslated.

Seize the Day Summary & Essays - Saul Bellow
The powerful impact of Seize the Day comes from its tightly constructed plot; from Bellow's ability to control effectively in a concentrated form such enormous themes as victimization, alienation, and human connection; and from his creation of Tommy Wilhelm, one of his most moving protagonists.
Tommy feels cut off not only from his father and from the rest of his family—his sister, his dead mother, his estranged wife and their two sons—but he also feels alienated from himself and from everyone he meets.
Bellow's ability to treat weighty themes in Seize the Day, while making Tommy Wilhelm a pitiable yet sympathetic character, explains the success of this novella: it is capable of seizing both the reader's mind and heart.

Municipal utilities warned / Governor says he'll seize excess electricity if prices don't come down   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Gray Davis threatened last night to seize excess power generated by California's municipal utility districts, which he said have charged even higher electricity prices than out-of-state generators.
In a variation on his threat to seize power plants from out-of-state generators if they continue gouging California ratepayers, the governor said he would use his executive powers to claim excess juice from the locally owned utilities if they do not lower their prices.
While unwilling to specify which municipal utilities have been most aggressive in their pricing, and refusing to place a dollar amount on how much the utilities charged, Davis said he is prepared to seize up to 800 megawatts of output if the they do not change their ways.
